Hi, need some help here.

I got an RFE to prove my U.S. citizenship. I sent in a legible copy of my U.S. passport as I thought that it was enough. I should mention that I was born abroad in the 80s and have no Report of a Birth Abroad, but I didn't think that that was required as I have a U.S. passport.

Can you please advise what I should send in for the RFE to prove my citizenship?

Thanks,

JJ

The passport should be enough. Was it a copy including the signature page, signed.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I really appreciate people responding!

I sent in a color copy of my UNexpired U.S. passport including the bio/signature page. I have no idea what went wrong. It was my understanding that that was enough. Am I also supposed to send in a birth certificate, and if that's not applicable then a naturalization or report of birth abroad form?

Thanks!

Hi! Can anyone try to explain whether to resend in a copy of my us passport (if that'e enough) or if I need to try to get a copy of a Report of Birth Abroad (it's hard - I never had one so I would need a notarized letter requesting it, etc.). Should the passport be enough in my case if I was born overseas to US parents but got citizenship as a child through them?

The instructions when using a US Passport as evidence of citizenship are to submit a copy of every page of the passport, yes, even the blank pages. Is that what you submitted?

No BC is needed if you have a US passport. The US passport proves your citizenship. My wife did this, no RFE.

However, as Pushbrk said, you need to include a copy of every page of the passport, yes, even the blank pages. Only including the bio/signature page will get you an RFE.

Yes, I submitted a photocopy of every single page (in color, too!). Strange....I made an appt at the US consulate to have them sign an affidavit that I am a citizen. I will submit that with another copy of my US passport and hope for the best. I hope it's not a Report of Birth Abroad issue.

What's the actual wording of the RFE?

What's the actual wording of the RFE?

U.S. Citizenship: As evidence of United States citizenship, the petitioner must submit a legible copy of: a) his/her birth certificate issued by a civil authority that shows the birth was in the United States; b) his/her unexpired United States passport issued initailly for a full ten year period to a citizen of the United States; c) a statement executed by a United States consular officer certifying the petitioner to be a United States citizen and the bearer of a currently valid United States passport; d) the front and back side of his/her Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship, properly signed; or e) his/her Dept of State Form FS-240, Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States.

Do you think this means that I need to get a Report of Birth Abroad? Don't have one and it's quite lengthy to get. I'm thinking of just resending a copy of my US passport and a certified letter from the US consulate stating that I'm a citizen. What do you think?

I think Naturalization certificate should be good enough as it verifies ur citizenship in USA.

I don't have a naturalization certificate. I was born abroad to U.S. parents and have had a US passport since I was an infant. The wording in the RFE isn't clear about what I should send in (leading me to question why a copy of my US passport wasn't enough?).

No. I think it means they lost the copy of your passport or just didn't see it in the stack and made a mistake. Send an excellent color copy again.
