Filed N-600K applications for my 2 children, and received a NOA acknowledging fees payment received ($600 per child) on April 3, 2012. Called 30 days later in May for status update and a Tier 2 person said that because of some child protection policy, they will not be posting any information online on the USCIS status check website, AND they will not be providing me any status information either!! Has anyone heard of anything like this (ahhh, I'm their father?!!) and does anyone have any suggestions on what to do??

Haven't heard of that policy, but if that is what it is, that is what it is. We really got obsessive-compulsive with the ROC stage with online status, can get to the point of checking it every five minutes.

Got away from that with citizenship, heck, we were good for ten years after that ROC stage headache. Can also apply for US passports for your kids, and really, getting US citizenship for them doesn't make any dfference at this stage in their lives. Elementary or high schools are not the least bit interested in immigration status. College was the first time they even wanted to see my stepdaughters green card. And for part time jobs, only wanted to see her SS card.

Would just relax and forget about it, but would inquire if nothing happens in 6-7 months.

Actually I saw two threads where two members have the same exact situation.

They could not get any status updates online, I do not recall any of them calling though.

If I found the posts, I will put the link

So they actually told you they weren't allowed to give you any info on the phone? Did they offer any further information or explanation or anything at all? I guess if that's the policy we just have to wait.

Yes, they pretty well said as much. Their explanation was something to do with privacy protection for minor children.

Well, in a way that doesn't surprise me but then who would they ever release any information to? Would the child have to call? Seems a little odd. But from I have read no one has been able to check the n600 status online; but the calling thing just seems odd.

Do you think it's possible you just happened to get an employee that didn't know what they were talking about? Maybe another call would clear it up.

That is strange.

I called a couple weeks ago because the N-600 for my 2 kids is already taken too long (since November).

I got the information that the local office has a lot of them processing and it will take about another 25 days for it to be adjudicated. I might get the certificates mailed to me (never heard of that!) or I have to pick them up it is depending on the local office.

No word about protection of minor children and actually I filed for them and paid!

USCIS wanted to see proof my stepdaughter paid for a traffic violation, since she was in college, tried to help her by getting that proof for her. Wouldn't let me have it because she was a minor, even though when she got that ticket, I had to show up in court with her. At least they got that paper ready, she had to take off from college, drive home, and pick it up herself.

Maybe the USCIS heard about this and said, let's do that too.

Use to get one medical or dental bill for the entire family, now they send out individual bills for each person, addressed to that person for this so-called privacy act. Questioned them about this, they tell me its the law and they have to do it this way. Good news for me is that my family size is down to three, but have to make out three checks instead of one, a pain in the butt. But so far no problems with them receiving a check from me for one of my famly members.

Its the same with our bank, wife has a credit card on our joint account, but send that bill just to her on a separate bank statement. Privacy for members with a joint account? Swear this country of mine is going crazy. But apparently run by a congress that wants to keep their finances private to their own spouses so they can cheat and fool around.

To the OP,

Did you try calling up USCIS again? Any new developments?

Last year, I filed the N600 for my then 17 year old son, and got the certificate 2 months after sending the application. I went with him during oath-taking, and he was one on one with the Immigration Officer. It was just the three of us in the big room in the local field office.

This year, I filed for my other son, sent it June 9, 2012, and noticed it had to be sent to Phoenix, AZ. Maybe why N600 processing is taking longer this time?

Ezzie, when you filed for your son this year were you given a letter with a receipt number or case number on it? Starting with the letters NBC? If so have you been able to check the status online or does it say "not found, etc"?
