Marrying in UK

So Harpa, because my fiancee is living in this country at the moment, we may be able to file for a spousal visa and move over to the US within a few weeks?

I just called the embassy and apparently that option isn't viable.

I guess its time to get married!

Most people here don't advise it, because if something "looks" like a wedding, it can be perceived as one. If you don't sign any papers, or provide any pictures at the interview, this is possible. It's not a risk I would personally take, but that's just me.

All right, my diversion is solved!

Yes, the idea was that if a UK student visa qualifies, you file directly with the embassy and go fast fast.

But, I guess it doesn't qualify! So, back to the other plan.

I eloped too, and it was great Have fun!

For the spousal visa you need to prove a marriage. I was in the same situation you are and the USICS told me that proving a marriage is much harder than proving a relationship you might want to consider filing for a K-1 visa get married in the USA before 90 days after you arrive in the USA. And then after you have all your information you can go back to the UK for vacation and have your wedding there. That is what my fiance and I are doing. We are getting married in the USA and then when we go to Chile on vacation we will get married so both of our families can be there. And if you are proving a marriage ur supposed to live in the UK with ur wife for a certain amount of time. I had a friend who had to stay in her home country over 2 years before they had the visa go through. Hope this helps. You have a lot to consider.

No, proving a very new marriage is not harder than proving a relationship. USCIS understands when people are newlyweds. Furthermore, London is a very easy consulate because fraud is exceptionally low. There is no set time someone must live in UK in order to "prove a marriage."

Whoever you talked to gave you bad advice... Probably the "misinformation line."

This is always swimming in the back of my mind...In the future if asked about this wedding for some particular reason avoid a response like "we had a quickie ceremony so we could get a spouse visa" or "we had a rush ceremony so we could get the immigration paper work in".

I've always thought that even the most bona fide relationship could be questioned because of an innocent comment taken out of context.

To do a DCF your fiancee must have lived in the UK for 6 months before you file (file after youre married obviously). You could get married in 15 days if you wanted to (required time for notice) and that route is a lot quicker than filing from the US. The process takes roughly 6 months currently. That is for the spousal visa. And you must move to the US within 6 months of the visa being issued.

It basically sucks...and we've all been through it. David and I got married through a civil ceremony and then had our religious one a few months later. It's frustrating that your marriage is according to USCIS, but that's what we have to do to keep our loved ones...can't wait until David has dual UK/USA citizenship so that we don't have to worry about this sht
