Hello, my name is isabella and i have a question that i would be really greatful for if someone could help me ..

I'm taking a year off from school to relax and come back to school with new strenght. I want to spend 4 months in USA and 4 months in France. I want to apply for a visitor visa, b2. And im now worried that my visa will get refused. Im a minor ( 17 years old). And i can show the consular the documents from school that prove that i will come back after 1 year, and also the other doucments that are requried.

I was thinking that it might be good to bring a invitation letter from my uncle in France, that shows that i will be going there after my stay in USA.

Do you think that they will approve my application? :)

Thank you very much for your time, best regards/ Isabella

If you spend 3 months instead of 4, you won't need a visa, just travel on the VWP. I traveled on the VWP before I was 18 and didn't encounter any problems. I always went to visit family members though.

Are you going by yourself? I think the biggest hurdle for you is your age. If you're going by yourself, the CO will likely wonder where a 17 year old girl will be staying while in the US alone for 4 months. Where do you plan to stay? If you're staying with family, I think you'll be fine.

they may well be leery of the 'need' to spend exactly 4 months in the US instead of 3.

Isabella, here is the catch-22. If you apply for a B2 visa for a four-month stay, you will be asked the reason of your visit and considering that you do not have pressing reason to be in the US for that period of time, your request may be denied. As suggested in a previous post, consider cutting it short to 90 days and come over on a VWP.. In your particular case, a letter from your uncle will not help you any.

Having said all that, you can always try.

good luck!

Another vote for 90 days

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
