Mother Denied Visit Visa

My mother in law was denied a visit visa to the US at the consulate in Dubai. She brought all the appropriate documentation, we even wrote a letter saying that we were going to be providing her accommadations and included our address and all of our phone numbers. We even sent copies of our drivers licenses and a copy of my husband's residency card. The interviewing officer seemed very focused on the letter that we wrote, was looking at things on the computer and then told her she could reapply. Didn't give a reason, a sheet of paper, nothing. Did our letter some how harm her application? How can she reapply if she doesn't know what to fix since no reason was given?

Sorry to hear...

Its very common. its so disappointing that our loved one's family can't even come for visits... the letter doesn't harm anything but they do need to be able to show everything on their own. Who know why one with the same documents can either be approved or denied.

what did you give as the reason for visiting and length of visit in your letter, and may it be different from what the mother told the CO at interview, even slightly?

As you discovered, your address, phone numbers, driver's licenses, etc, that is, everything pertaining to YOU is not relevant...what is relevant is what she told the VOs, how she answered the questions, and what, if any, ties she offered from Dubai...or is she from a different country, in which case it may be difficult to determine what her ties to that country are.

She provided 6 months worth of bank statements, her current employment contract, a permission letter from her employer saying they had no objections to her travel, and a copy of her tenancy agreement. She is not a UAE national, but has resided there for nearly 30 years.

I assumed it would be obvious that she is coming to visit her family here so we didn't state a reason in the letter, nor did we give a length of time.

She told us what was asked and what she said, there should be no problem. He said she wasn't refused, just that she could reaaply.

Yes in the UAE she would be the equivalent of a permanent resident in the US but her country of nationality is India. She holds an Indian passport

With the exception of my husband her other children though grown are there. She's been there for nearly 30 years, so she is well established.

Reapply would seem the option and see.

do not bother with your stuff, they know she wants to go to the US otherwise she would not be applying for a Visa.

Concentrate on her stuff, she can fund her own way and need to return to job, family etc.

Re-Apply with all the ties would be the only option.

If she has enough funds on her own to cover her expense for the trip, than you dont need to provide any invitation letter or letter of support.
