If they did a background check on me, I am not aware of it, for marriage, just wanted to see either my birth certificate or US passport, heck, I submitted both, they can flip a coin for all I care. Wanted to know if I was free to marry my wife, so wanted to see my divorce papers again, all 51 doubled sided pages. Also wanted to see our marriage certificate again, with that stack of records they have on us, how in the heck to they realize my wife got her green card?

But that was it for me, never had to answer questions as to if I was a prostitute or a member of the NazI party in 1933, or never had to show proof I paid a speeding ticket fine back in 1988 for driving 57 mph in a 55 mph zone. They did want to see my name on all that joint evidence, but as far as good moral character, was only concerned about the applicant.

I just figured they do a background check on the US citizen as well as the immigrant spouse... I wasn't sure though.

What makes you say they've done a background check on the US citizen spouse?

No background check on the USC spouse for naturalisation- that is all on the foreigner.
