At this point in time i'm about 70:30 self-defense: manslaughter

I think there is a key to this case now - the witness who changed his story from "mix martial arts" to pinned. Get him on the stand and I think things will fall in to place. IF Martin did pin him I think manslaughter would make sense. I have to say his injuries are somewhat similar to activists I've seen after getting slammed into the ground and arrested.

But I think its more likely the witness is pulling back for fear of being lynched.

GIRLFRIEND: Yeah. I hear something like bump. You could hear that Trayvon—somebody bumped Trayvon. I could hear the grass.

POLICE OFFICER:
OK. So you could hear there was something going on.

GIRLFRIEND:
Yeah.

POLICE OFFICER:
Like something hitting something?

GIRLFRIEND:
Yeah.

POLICE OFFICER:
OK.

GIRLFRIEND:
You can hear—I can hear the grass thing.

Reading the whole thing, the girlfriend sounds like an idiot.

Not to mention the fact she didn't call 911 after that happened....

that was an awesome connection to hear (wasn't the grass wet?) ... the sound of feet on wet grass.

sounds like someone was a serious foot dragger

she heard "something hitting something" ... what did she see? can she identify what (or who) hit from her observation?

which is quite silly because the sound of Trayvon being shoved would be the same sound as Trayvon shoving. That's why she had to add the words, Trayvon saying "get off"

Not in the context of what Martin was conveying to her prior to the confrontation. She said he was clearly scared and trying to avoid or get away from Zimmerman and then she hears Martin ask Zimmerman why he was following him. But if Martin shoved first, in that context, it was a defensive act, provoked by Zimmerman pursuing him. If Zimmerman shoved back, that would be consistent with his stand-offish reply, "What are you doing here?" Zimmerman's culpability at that point became most apparent. He longer just pursued Martin as a neighborhood watchman, but acted like an indifferent bully by not identifying himself or explaining why he was following Martin. Martin could only assume the worst of Zimmerman - that he was some kind of crazed maniac looking to hurt or kill him, so Martin had a reasonable fear for his life and had the right to defend himself by any means necessary. Unfortunately, Martin can't plea for his defense. So many here from the get go never even let it cross their minds that whatever physical actions Martin took at that point, were out of self defense. There's just no evidence that demonstrates he was out to get Zimmerman that night and Zimmerman's injuries are pretty much irrelevant under such circumstances.

ETA: I do agree that it would impossible for her to know exactly what was happening at the point of physical contact, however, her account of the phone conversation leading up to that will be crucial in showing that Zimmerman instigated the confrontation with no regard for his or Martin's safety.

Several witness statements seem to corroborate her claim that Zimmerman was the aggressive one in the matter. Written statements show that several witnesses heard two voices "arguing" and said that one was "loud" "aggressive" "domineering". I think character witnesses - to lay the groundwork for his aggressive, bullying nature and incident witness testimony are going to crucial. We'll see.

She sounds like a scared young girl that heard the last words of her best friend before he died on the telephone.

I don't think that equates to being an idiot.

Witness statements are going to have parts that aren't quite accurate, but it will be up to both the prosecution and the defense to demonstrate which witnesses are most credible.

Yes I'd like to hear how his fantastic story of "mixed martial arts" was conjured up in his head. Sounds like he's seen a few too many Jackie Chan movies. Isn't this the same witness that Zimmerman requested him to call his wife? Just curious.

My point about the witness statements that were written substantiate each other that ONE voice was the loud aggressive domineering one..and that there was an argument/confrontation taking place before the scuffle ensued.

Anyone else see the irony in this?

He is accusing the Sanford police dept of corruption? The same dept. that was going to let him step away for the crime he committed? It seems that noone could please Zimmerman.. more proof he needed to take things into his own hands.

I thought what it showed is Zimmerman's compassionate side for a homeless man. For whatever bad decisions he made that fateful night that he shot and killed Martin, he shows a sense of righteousness.

You're right that was part of the story. He does seem to offer some compassion to the victim of this crime. Of course the man wasn't a teenager with a hoodie "looking suspicious" in his neighborhood. I was referring to his dissatisfaction with the police force- which was the main purpose he seems to be compelled to write. His long, documented history of dissatisfaction of those with authority over him seems to contribute to his urgent sense of vigilantism- in my opinion.

Ah, gotcha. Yep, the prosecution has a lot of ammunition on Zimmerman's character and mindset.
