I submitted my I-129F two weeks ago.

I received the receipt and my packet has been received at the Vermont Processing Center.

The timeline suggests that it would take 5 months for the VPC to process my packet and then they will send to the Embassy in Rio De Janeiro...

Is that possible that it would take five months? Since, my mom is very ill and I would like her to be at our wedding, would that be sufficient excuse to get it expedited.

Furthermore, is the Rio de Janeiro consulate very difficult to work with? Do they have a great volume of applications generally?

I would just like to know how long this whole process may take...

I thought it would take approximately 5-6 months for the entire k-1 process including consulate interview... is that wrong to believe?

Thanks

Judith

It generally takes 4-6 months for the petition to be approved by USCIS, then there's the consulate/interview stage. Getting the entire process done in 4-6 months is highly unlikely and pretty rare.

You should check out the regional forums and see how long your consulate generally takes after the petition has been approved.

Good luck to you. :)

An ill parent is not something that would warrant an expedite.

6 months from petition submission to interview is unlikely. More realistically that is the amount of time for the petition to be processed at the service center.
