Am I able to apply for a Work Authorisation Permit, once I've entered the US and have my Social Security Number and my own bank account? Do I have to wait until we've submitted my AOS application?

I know I cannot work without a Work Authorisation permit...

Thanks again in advance for your help!!

Yes you can apply for an EAD on the basis of your K1.

But by the time you got it there would probably be only be a few days validity left so not a lot of point.

How long does it take to get an EAD? How long are they valid for?

As a K1, if you apply for EAD separately just after entry, you pay the $380 fee. It will take 60-90 days to approve. It will be valid until the date your I-94 expires (90 days after entry).

If you apply for EAD along with AOS, the $380 fee is waived, so no cost to apply. It will take 60-90 days to approve. It will be valid for one year.

Tagging along with this question, does the EAD enable him go to school? he's thinking of a career in the health care field and would like to start school as soon as possible.

Thanks.

EAD is to work, you do not need anything for School except money.

Right but your legal status in the country may not permit you to further your education otherwise. I could be wrong thats why I am asking....

i think you may just (i say just, but it crazy expensive) have to pay out of state tuition fees depending on the school. if going to a "fast track" school i dont believe they charge more for out of towners. good luck.
