I just sent my I-129F packet to the TSC this week, and I have started to read about the next steps involved with getting the K-1 visa. I read on this (awesome) site that I will need to get a letter from my employer stating my salary, position, and job status. I am a self-employed software consultant so my employer is myself. What should I do about obtaining a letter?

You don't get a letter :)

You will be including your entire tax return(s) including Schedule C, which will explain all.

I see that your intended is from Japan. If you can travel and marry there, there is a much faster and more complete option available to you(even though you do not live in Japan). It's called DCF/Direct Consular Filing and you can read about it here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2939

Thanks for the advice. I guess I should have read the form before asking the question! It will be a few months before I need to fill out that form.

Since Japan asks for I-134, you only need your last income tax return filed, not last three.

Re-read the statement.... SELF EMPLOYED... = 3 Years of Taxes no exceptions doesnt matter if it is I-134. Self employed is self employed..

Not sure where you are getting that info. The affidavit of support (I-134) clearly states

"if self employed:

1. Copy of last income tax return filed; or

2. Report of commercial rating concern."

This is copied directly off the instructions from this form. I have it here in front of me now. How can you get 3 years from that??

I-134, signed in front of the officer

2004 tax return draft

2005 tax return draft

last three month bank statements

business letter, explaining the business

business license

and we left a copy of each at the embassy, not a single question came up on the financial support

Good luck, Anja
