Will the name on the green card and EAD be the maiden or married name?

If she gets a SSN in her married name will this be a problem with employers if it doesnt match the EAD name?

What name the I-485 / I-765 has been submitted with ? That's the one that is going to end up on GC. USCIS does not pick the name...

Her maiden name which matches the I-94 and her passport.

Hello,

Used the married name for Greencard and EAD and advcance parole application.

When u are applying for an SSN before & after marriage, they will still used the maiden name. WHen u have your greencard then thats the time that you will change it to married name.

Hope this will help.

This is not true. I applied for SSN for my wife after marriage, and they used the name I requested which was the married name. And then I filed for the AOS with the married name.

If she is planning on using her new married name from now on, she should have filled out the AOS forms in her married name. It takes months and costs quite a bit to change the name on the green card after it is issued. If you get an interview, you can explain it to them, and they may be able to change it for you there so the card comes in her married name instead.

Then everything will be on the maiden name. And it will be a pain to change it. So you may want to have the SSN also on the maiden name.

That's what she is going to have on her green card / EAD. Pain to change later on...

I didn't send the application yet. So its ok to send the I-485 with the married name?

Should the rest of the paperwork G-325a etc. also reflect her married name?

She can apply for her SS in her married name. There is a section at the top of the application that asks for other names used - such as maiden name. She will need to take her marriage certificate as proof of her change of name. This will not affect employment. It is costly and time consuming to correct GC; she can change her name when she ROC. At this point her information will be in the government's database showing that she is the same individual based on her A# which is collected at SS to correspond with her EAD. It will not cause a employment- related problem.

An example:

My GC has a different name than my social security card which was corrected to show my current surname. Funny thing is that my passport has another previous surname. Lol. All three IDs have different names. I have even travelled outside of the country without difficulty. All i needed was proof of my name- change. You do not need SS to travel, so you can travel on your maiden name as it corresponds with your GC or you may use your married name and take your marriage certificate with you. I'd opt for the former as my documents would be in one name.

I will be applying for citizenship in 2014, so I will not be wasting money to correct my passport nor GC. Everything will work out once I get my citizenship. All the best to you. Hope this helped a bit.

Yes, use her married name as her family name on all the forms. There is a place to put her name exactly as it appears on the I-94 on the I-485, and a place on the G-325A to put others names used. Put her maiden name in those places. Apply for her SSN in her married name too. Once she has the EAD, she should be able to get a state ID or drivers license in her new married name as well.

When she travels, you will need to use the name on her passport. If it is still in her maiden name, then bring along your marriage certificate and her green card in her married name. This will show why the passport and green card are different.

The answer is whatever her legal name is. If she changed her name at marriage then she should have filed for AOS using her married name. Some people don't change their name at marriage.

You choose the name on the green card, it can be either. The name on the SS card will not matter, she does not need to show her SS card to employers, the green card is all she needs. Change the name on the SS card after she has her green card and when she gets around to it, no rush.

Not really. Her passport can be different. Make ticket reservations in the name on the passport. Show the passport and green card when returning and keep a copy of your marriage license if there are any questions, usually not.

The SS card can be put in a drawer and forgotten. The card itself is useless, the Green card is primary evidence of work eligibility so it is good all by itself.

FWIW Alla used her MAIDEN name since we were married until citizenship. She changed her name to the married name with citizenship and will get her US passport in her married name, she changed the drivers license and will eventually change the SS card. She will no longer use her Ukrainian passport for travel.

You can do it however you want.

Yes. List her madien name as "other names used"
