City realty in Moscow has very reasonable rentals in that neighborhood.

The last time I stayed in Moscow (not Visa related), I stayed in Hotel Sputnik: http://www.hotelsputnik.ru/indexe.htm

Not sure how close the embassy is, but you can get anywhere using the metro.

Also consider checking Hostels in the area, when my wife went to Poland for her Visa she stayed in a hostel.

Hotel People (look them up on Booking.com) is pretty good. My husband stayed there for his interview and it was pretty nice and not too pricey. Very clean and some modern amenities (free wifi and some communal computers with internet, satellite TV, a fully-functional communal kitchen, etc.). It's actually divided into a hostel and a hotel - the hotel offers single rooms where you either have a private bathroom, or there are rooms that are single but you use a communal bathroom. The hostel, of course, is traditional hostel-style with several beds in one room. If you're really the private/quiet type, spend a little more for a single room for the privacy and quiet. There are safes up at the front desk to store your valuables while you're gone for the day. It's within walking distance of the Embassy, and you can get all the other places you need to go on the Metro. Victor had a positive experience staying there.

AirBNB is your friend. Last time I went to Moscow, I used AirBNB and picked out a nice place. My wife said she could get a better price, so she checks a site (similar to AirBNB) and it was not a bad place, but on my last day there, this meth addict son of the person who was renting it to us decided to show up and he was wearing only his underwear, and was completely out of his mind. He wasn't violent, just a bit strange... anyway, yea... use AirBNB and if your woman says she can find a better price, just say "thanks, but let me handle this".
