If their children were born here then THEY are USCs and are eligible for food stamps. Again, unless someone messed up, they should only be receiving enough to cover tr children. Additionally, Medicaid to cover pregnancy is often different than regular Medicaid. LPRs may be eligible for this without a waiting period and in some states illegal immigrants may be as well. Just because they are eligible, however, does not mean it won't have to be paid back down the line.

That is what I meant they get it based on the children. I understand its based on the children and all and I guess it just upsets me because they work off the books so their income isn't really counted towards how much they should get or not get. I understand they work hard and do jobs that some people would never do but it still isnt fair to people who are legally here and might cualify for the benefits but disqualify because they are an LPR and haven't lived five years here or worked a certain amount of hours.

I understand what you mean. In theory they should only be receiving enough food for the children and not enough to feed themselves, but of course there is no way to regulate what happens with that food.

It depends. You cant get food stamps in NYC without an income or a way to prove you have some way to support your needs. I have US citizen children and I was on foodstamps. You really dont get that much and they did put me through a lot in order to get what I did get for the children.

I live in NYC as well and have seen obscene amounts in food stamps by people I know for a fact are illegal aliens. My friends mom gets about 450 a month based on 2 kids not including my friend. A lady that lives in my building gets 700 a month and she only has one child.

However the children are entitled to food stamps and I dont see anything wrong with that at all. I know when I was working under table, every little bit helped. In NYC the maximum for 2 kids is 397 and the maximum for one is 150(approx)

There is no way that she gets 700 a month unless she has provided 4 other peoples social security numbers.

I reall felony know what she provided but she does get that much because as I said I worked in a supermarket and used to charge her for the food she bought. Regardless I don't think it's wrong I just think it should be available for all if needed including the LPRs.

Yes well. I'm just telling you that there is no way that she got 700 for one child. That is impossible. Maybe they owed her money and gave her all at one time but there is absolutely no way that she got 700 for one child in NYC.

I disagree with you. An LPR is not a citizen. Why should an LPR be entitled to any benefits that a USC should get. The difference between Us (LPRs) and Them (USC from birth) is that we can get deported. They never can be. We arent the same and I dont think we deserve the same benefits.

But I bet if we were able...there would be a huge line of LPR's trying to get food stamps!

In the Uk anyone who is from the EC can get benefits. Now THAT is crazy to me.

I actually think the welfare system needs revamping entirely in both Canada and the US - it is abused way too much.

Some states are finally putting measures in place to limit the amount of time on them and force job hunt training and proof people are pursuing work...

By moving to the US, I give up the benefits I had back home. I don't really think it's fair to be left in no man's land. I've always paid my taxes, never abused (actually never used) any of the medical/unemployment benefits I was entitled to (because, fortunately, I didn't need to).

Again, I always did everything by the book,, including this whole immigration process. It seems that, as usual, it is the correct ones that get screwed by the system.

Actually I'm a USC so I'm entitled to them but thankfully don't need them. Most LPRs will become citizens eventually at least that's what I did and hence will be entitled to them at that point so god forbid they were in need before that it would be nice if it was available.

US citizens, including the baby, are NEVER EVER required to surrender ANY benefit of being a citizen. To suggest so is preposterous. This will have no affect on AOS.

Then go back, the benefits you gave up are still there for you.

US citizens have these benefits, LPRs do not, usually until they have been here for 5 years and are eligible to be citizens.

Your RIGHTS, except voting, are the SAME as US citizens. The constitution extends these rights to ALL PEOPLE under the jurisdiction of the US. That means LPRs.

Welfare and food stamps are NOT RIGHTS. They are "benefits" available to citizens and LPRs here more than 5 years.

That is fraud. If you know this for a fact, report it to the authorities. Because a few people commit a crime you cannot give it to everyone. Enforce the laws we have.
