Oh wow..80 miles?

Congrats...you became a Naturalized US citizen before the baby arrives..cant imagine going into labor during the oath ceremony

So to clarify things with you since u are very knowledgable about USCIS so far, you did the SS first before your passport?

I could and should have done that but my need to get everything done one time got in the way.

Are we able to check if our voting registration form was received?

Thanks! I can't imagine that either. The lady next to me asked me if I was going into labor because the baby was moving a lot and I kept rubbing my tummy.

I went to the SS office first so that I could mail off the certificate with my passport application. I don't know if the SS office can accept a copy of your naturalization certificate, I don't see why not, I just hadn't thought of doing that. All they do is enter your alien number and check your details so it might not be a problem. It doesn't really matter when you go to the SS office and change your status, as long as you remember to do it. I know someone who lived here for many many years and they tried to claim SS at retirement age and the SS office had no proof of them being a citizen and it was a headache to fix.

I have no idea about the voter registration form. I sent mine off to the local government, they will send me a card if they accept my application. Where did you send your forms to?

Had my interview this morning... Didn't get seen until well after my appointment time. Once I was called, the IO went through all my forms confirming the information... I got questioned about traffic violations... Had to speak and write a sentence in English which I passed. Then I had 6 questions which I also passed. At the end, the IO said I passed the interview but a decision could not be made as my file was too thick and they wanted to review it more. Quite disappointing really.

Was there anything special about your file which made it "thick"? My wife's file with just the bare minimum stuff (3 years of tax returns, copies of marriage certificate, etc.) looks thick to me!

2012-04-17 N-400 filed

2012-04-19 NOA

2012-06-15 biometrics in Houston

2012-08-13 interview in San Antonio (why not Houston?) -- Passed!

Yeah the lady just collected a copy of the certificate and that was it.

I sent my form to the address that was provided for my county .

I will wait and see what happens as well.

You should get something in the mail letting you know you have been accepted. I wish this wasn't done per state, it would be a lot easier! How long ago did you send it in? It will probably take them a few weeks.

So when we register to vote , we don't get accepted right away

I sent the form on Friday.

Yeah we will see.

They have to process the paperwork. How long that will take, well... your guess is as good as mine. ;)

Like Presley, I was thinking it will be right away but judging from the time it takes USCIS to update the system, it might be few weeks as well but oh well.

As long as we registered, thats all that matters.

I was just relieved and excited last week that I did everything last week

Well, my n400 was based on marriage to a USC (we divorced prior to 2yrs and I had conditions removed, then got my 10yr GC)... Not sure if that sparks a need for further review of my file.

You do not have to be a us citizen to receive ss benefits, either at retirement or for disability reasons. As long as you have enough credits a lpr is eligible for all these same benefits. It is a common myth.

Had my interview yesterday Raleigh-Durham NC office and I volunteered information about traffic citation I received last year (which I failed to write on the application). I was told it is ok, it will not affect my eligibility but the IO still noted it down. I passed the interview and testing but since I requested name change, I will have to wait when they have an oath taking schedule with a judge.

I am just so glad this is almost over! Congrats to others who passed and to all who are now US Citizens!!!

Incorrect. As I said, I am speaking from experience. You need to change your status with the SS office.
