Problem with I-693

My wife and I married last September. Her visa for the United States also expired in September. We finally got all of her vaccinations complete and went to our appointment for I693 paperwork. Wish we could have done everything sooner but it all adds up to so much money and it took me 6 months to get enough for AOS. Everything went great expect they said they needed a "current picture identification", the only thing we have is her expired visa. We have no way of getting a state id card. Hoping anyone has some ideas on a way of getting a picture id somehow. The only thing we could think of was our gym membership cards but didn't figure that would be enough. Doctor could not even help us with this, just kept telling us that we were wasting his time. I just paid you $400 for one hour of your time figured he could have been a little more helpful.

We just used my wife's passport.

Who said you need current photo ID? That is not a requirement for AOS. Is the doctor's office requesting this? Where is her passport?

The doctor doing everything said it had to be current or he would get in lots of trouble. Her passport is in Russian and he wouldn't accept it. I may just bite the money I paid and go to another doctor after the horrible experience with this guy.

I thought all passports had to be in the native language and also either English or French. I looked for images of Russian passports just now, and they show both Russian, and English. Doesn't hers have English on it too?

They are in English and Russian, somehow her English passport is expired but her Russian passport is good until the end of this year.

You mean her internal passport? Please be specific. "English passport" and "Russian passport" is confusing. She does not have an English passport unless she is an English citizen. The only thing I can work out is that you mean her internal passport v. her international passport.

Anyway, I would just find another Civil Surgeon, whatever the case may be.

I went ahead and called the doctor he is going to give us part of our money back. I told him that we would just find another doctor in the area. Another civil surgeon here in town I called told me they would have no problem getting everything fixed for us as long as we have her visa and all records translated. After reading reviews on this guy we went to sounds like he causes problems for everyone that goes to him.

A valid passport is more than enough! It doesn't even need to have a visa in it.

I used my new passport. Mine that one with expired visa is also expired so I just brought the new one with no visa in there. They didn't even ask for visa. I don't think they have any right to ask for valid visa for immigration medical exam.

Yeah...you just got a bad doc. Mine didn't ask for anything.
