Hey how does that work exactly? Does either person go to the persons country and just... marry them? Then they can go back to the same country together being married? Is that how it works?

Is this the quickest way to be together with the fiance?

Well you can go and just marry the person. But you can't go back right away with your wife, there are processes to follow.

Actually it a little bit longer than fiancee route. For example my fiancee route took 5.5 month from submission to visa approval, while marrying and then applying could take around 10 month. There are cons and pros to both methods just read the guides.

Apparently you can go to the U.S. to marry your fiance/e. Apply for AOS and stay there for the rest of the entire process. But you can't go on intent to stay there (probably not hard to lie about since you can just say "Hey I have all my stuff back at home, I'm renting, so I never intended on marrying. It just happened!")

I could do that myself. But I'm doing the fiance visa route... It just seems faster to go there, marry them and stay for the rest of the process (risky?)

You should be betting your noa1 in the mail in a few days. You are doing a k1 for Jamaica, most of the members I have seen have not waited very long. Good luck with whatever you decide

I sure hope so.... Thanks... I think I'm just going to leave it as is.... From the responses I'm getting and from talking to the Natl Cust Svc line, it appears the K1 is quicker (despite the headache when he gets here).

My fiancé's 10-yr multiple indefinite tourist visa just expired.... so we decided that it's best he just waited on this process rather than try to renew that. On the tourist visa application there's a question about whether he has immediate relatives here (fiancée is considered as such) and whether he has a pending immigration application (not that the k1 is that, but still)... If he said yes to those he would probably be denied his renewal, so we're just going to have to wait. :(

I did a K-1 and it isn't that bad of a headache. You submit the AOS, AP and EAD all at once after getting married and the fee is $1070. The only headache is him being "bored" to tears before being able to work. At least he's here with me. I think is brave to marry someone and then be away from your spouse for a long period of time, be it this process or the military or business.

Good luck!

Don't ever do anything you're not willing to explain the paramedics.

Very risky, if you get caught your spouse is deported and faces a ban from the US.

8 months and 1 week. I was not a happy camper...

There was a money order fiasco, the guy printed our money order in CAD not US, so USCIS sent us a notice that the payment was rejected. We were given the option to pay with a credit card over the phone so we did.

I waited... waited... called USCIS at the six month mark and was told because of the money order issue our priority date was changed to July 25th. I explained that is not what my notice says. He argued with me. So I finally had to sic my congressman on them.

During their correspondence with my congressman it slipped out by a USCIS supervisor that our file was 'misplaced' after the payment was recorded. 10 days after my Congressman lit a fire under them we had an approval. When I got the hard copy of our NOA2, our priority date was June 16th, NOT July 25th.
