Hi!

Im wondering if anyone can help me. Im a canadian citizen and native american. My boyfriend and I have decided to get married not to long ago.

Since Easter is around the corner we thought this would be a perfect time since most of his family from seattle will be going down to his grandmothers

for the holiday. My family unfortunately will not be able to attend as we are now just spreading out on our own and they do not have the funds for such a trip.

Thus my questions to this matter are as follows:

1) Will I be able to get married on a tourist visa?

2) What do I say to the border offical on my intent to visit the states, get married AND then

come home?

3) What documents do I need to prove to the border officer that I am most willingly coming

home after my stay has ended and that I am NOT going to apply for permanent residence.

Since I am Native American and can get my Social Sercurity Number anytime I wish. Does this prove

a %100 percent that my only intention is to just get married and Ill come home once my travel visa is up.

Please if anyone can help ease my mind I will forever be grateful!!!

Thanks so much!!!

P.s My co-workers have also threatened to personally come down and get me if I dont come

back. They are VERY attached to me! :D

1. Yes you can get married on a tourist visa.

2. Generic but truthful reply is best. Will you have a wedding dress or anything like that? If so, better say get married, come home.

3. Bring a letter from your job perhaps, or any apartment lease or something that shows you must return.

4. I don't think your being native and eligible for US stuff makes much of a difference. I doubt the CBP will know what you're entitled to anyway, so it will probably confuse them more.

Good luck and happy wedding!

A letter from your job, lease contracts, documents for property owned if any. Return ticket is also important.

Also, have an exact and straightforward answer about your agenda during your stay in US.

It might be a good idea not to bring a whole lot of luggage with you to avoid creating the impression of you moving to US permanently.

As a native American, if you want to enter the USA using your rights under the Jay Treaty, you can do so. You don't need to worry about intent, return tickets or anything else. You have the right to go back and forth across the border, live and work in the USA as long as you want, and even apply for your own green card. If you want to go this route, you need to have all the required documentation to prove your native status and that you have at least 50% native ancestry.

On the other hand, if you want to go the "regular" route, or if you don't have the required documents to prove that you are at least 50% Native American bring the evidence that has already been suggested. Personally if I was going to do it that way, I would then probably not confuse CBP by bringing up the Jay treaty rights.
