Further a huge love of his is kapenta. It's fish they leave to dry for a week in the sun... Then eat it. It tastes like it smells... Dry rotting fish. I've told him I'm never making it and if he eats it he will not be kissing me that night. I've tried it. Couldn't manage it and I've eaten bugs. Zambia likes weird food lol

He's great about it and since I've tried it understands. But he forced me to try it before I rejected it completely. Out of love I did it. And out of love he won't force me to make it for him.

we have the same thing like kapenta here in the phils, but we call it "buwad" dried fish as they say. I love it actually..:)

That's too funny. I think food has been a 'slight' issue for us. My fiance made me try Marmite last time I was in the UK and it was one of the most wretched things I have ever put in my mouth. For him he HATES peanut butter and jelly, which I can't even fathom how anyone could hate it! We tried to get his Mom to try it and she didn't really understand and put butter on the bread with the peanut butter and jelly; needless to say she didn't enjoy it either, haha. He also detests American bacon. I listen to him lament the approaching loss of his "back bacon" at least once a week, hehe. The only other difference I notice is that we're a bit more laid back and casual here in the USA, and so by comparison the Brits seem a tad reserved (which he's noticed that too), however, it's one of the things I like about him. :D

Not sure how far you are from the Canadian border, but once you've got your AP in hand, you can always drive up to Canada and pick up some back bacon!! (I hate the stuff though LOL)

Oh man, I had to get meat from a butcher (the only one in town) while in Zambia. I usually got really good cuts and extra food too because I was a macuwa (white person) with blue eyes (a real treat. But I really felt tricked when I ordered bacon. The cut was awful and I was not thrilled. But I learned from Jayson that what I needed was called "shoulder bacon". Changed my life. American bacon just can't compare.

I tried so hard to like it. Jaysons aunt made it the first time we met so you bet I wanted to impress her. Three hand fulls (they eat with hands in their culture) and I started gagging. I was really disappointed in my gagging. I've eaten bugs and many other gross things in my travels, and out of politeness always managed to swallow it. This time I had met my match. Jayson noticed my trouble and slowly took from my plate to his. For a week I would walk passed people selling kapenta on the side of the road or in the market and have to calm my stomach.

Hah, I just told my fiance that and he said "We'll be having a long weekend in Canada." Haha. He was asking yesterday what the difference was between Canadian bacon (which you can sometimes find here) and American bacon. I told him I thought Canadian bacon was maybe more similar to British back bacon, but I couldn't remember the last time I've had it. Do you think it's similar? I seem to recall it being more 'hammy' than American bacon...

I wasn't sure what to make of the British bacon but it's certainly grown on me! Still, I love some American bacon. Mmm Mmm! However, for a BLT I'd have to say British bacon all the way XD

Sounds delicious. Where can I get that to try in the states? Or can Jayson bring some to the states and you mail me some?

Great topic for today! Fortunately for us, me and my fiancé don't really have any problems or misunderstandings due to cultural backgrounds. He loves German culture, history and food (except for potato dumplings maybe!), and we have the same views on most things. The only issue maybe is that he takes things in a more relaxed way than me (I always worry and don't like not being in control of things, like when we were waiting for our NOA2), and he kept telling me that it doesn't make sense to worry about things that I have no control over.

We *finally* heard back from the NVC today about their mess up with my fiancé's birthdate. Said they cannot assist us anymore, and that we should contact the consulate. What on earth!!! It would have taken them approx. 30 seconds to get the bithdate (THEIR mistake) corrected, but I guess that was asked too much. I am not sure who of the bunch are the bigger morons, VSC or NVC.

I honestly have no idea! My fiancé is going to write an e-mail to the consulate in Frankfurt this evening, and we hope to hear back from them soon (they are usually pretty fast with replies to e-mails). Let's see what they say, but I guess at least we have made it out of the NVC... :)

The tier 2 is the Immigration officer. They are the ones who can do service requests and open your electronic file. Call enter workers see exactly what we see, and no more.

Thanks for clarifying .. that's what I thought - someone mentioned something earlier and it confused me... Oh well the bottom line is we have done all we can then. Now waiting for them to send us an Infopass apptment card (don't know if that'll help).

Just want some timeline so I know we're not lost in space forever.

So stressful I've become OCD about all this  - horrible how it dominates almost every second - its a wonder I don't go out dressed in pyjamas !

Haha I like this topic. We haven't had too much opportunity to try out each other's cuisine but I'm looking forward to it. I once made my fiance and his friends a homemade Indian banquet of curries, bombay potatoes etc since I had told him it was our national dish (I think it still is). He said he liked it at the time but a few months later when the politeness had gone told me not so much lol! He also wondered why I got so excited when I found a gas station with an English Isle which had proper Heinz baked beans! They were about £2 a tin but thats cheaper than shipping them! Chocolate on the other hand is definitely a winner, now I have to take bars of cadburys and galaxy on every visit!
