Affidavit of Support - same household questions?

If I have a co-sponsor that is a family member but also lives in the same household as me, are there specific rules for this? I read somewhere that someone in the same household can't "count" so-to-speak...and must fill out a separate form, I-864A?

Anyone have any additional info on this? Thanks.

Normally, the sponsor and co-sponsor of a K1 fill the I134, not I-864 or I-864A.

If the I-864 needs to be filed, then it depends on your relationship with the co-sponsor/ household member. Are you financially dependant on them or they on you, or do you just happen to be room mates?

Yes you are right ---- it can be a bit confusing ---- at the root is the law --- and then comes the part where the law is applied and it can get different interpretations. To keep it simple: Each person whose income is used to support the AOS must file a separate and distinct i864 yet all are counted in each i864 as members of the "the household" for their distinct households. Good Luck. Many blessings. Each person who acts as a sponsor is signing a legal contract with the government and will be held responsible for that contract. The second test is the size of the household. Each is an independent issue.

Electric86, You are filing for a K1 Visa, correct? Your profile doesn't specify

maiortum, You are talking about AOS and apparently, Electric86 seems to be talking about the Affidavit of Support for a K1 Visa

Just pointing this out, because it seems like the processes might be slightly different.
