Hi all,

First post here but have been reading quite a lot. My american fiance and I are getting married in Feb and as I understand it, I need to apply for the CR1 visa and may be able to apply through the K3 process.

I live in Vancouver and will finish school here (August 2012) and would rather avoid the 1-day flight to Montreal for an interview. Do I have the ability to interview in Washington State or in Vancouver? Or do us folks on the west coast just have to bite the bullet and travel? If the latter is the case, am I able to negotiate the interview date around Aeroplan flight availability or do they just give you a date and expect you to get there?

Thanks very much.

Montreal only - it is the only place to interview for a spousal visa in Canada - you cannot interview in the USA for a spousal visa.

The NVC books the interview date for you and you get what you are given.

You wont be applying for a K-3 you will be applying for a CR-1. Please read the guides under the guide section.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Inky, as usual, is right. You're only option is to interview in Montreal.

So you have to 'bite the bullet' and go to Montreal.

NVC will give you an interview date, if you cannot make it, you tell them and they'll assign you another one. There isn't any negotiating - you take what you are given, if you cannot make it you are given another one later on.

Good luck

It's a bummer but we have to go to Montreal for the interview. At least you will be able to have your medical in Vancouver so don't have to add extra time in Montreal for that. Just another cost to be added to the process.

Yeah, I am not looking forward to having to go to Montreal either...Been holding off on sending in our I-864, and we paid all our IV fees but haven't logged back in to finish our DS-260's either. Just in case it goes too quick and we end up getting an interview date in March. Would rather wait and have an interview in April or May.

August 2012? I think you'll be fine on the turnover time, from start till finish - no interview for you prior to that.

What's wrong with Montreal, anyway? It's got the best poutine on the planet.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Nothing wrong with Montreal except it's the other side of the continent and poutine is revolting on any planet.

"What's wrong with Montreal, anyway? It's got the best poutine on the planet."

Not a big P-tine fan, but we mostly detest having to go there because it is 8 hrs away, and we have been spoiled by living our whole entire lives only 15 mins from the border where our POE is going to be....We routinely travel back and forth and have never had any major issues. We have no apprehensions about the whole process and we are already familiar with the procedures and where we have to go when it actually comes time to poe. The vwp has been good to us. :star: Cant wait to get this all done and hand them that envelope.

Its mostly a pain to do the MTL thing because with less hassle and in a shorter time we could go anywhere in Michigan or even go right to Chicago a heck of a lot faster than having to go to MTL

And for laughs I put driving directions into google maps. Vancouver to Montreal and Calgary to Montreal, and in both cases the directions are through the US.

Do Australians have the same problem? Only one place for interview.
