I filed the i-130 for my wife who is currently in the country visiting me. I was just wondering after the i-130 (if it is that is) approved and she receives the visa number...before filing the i-485 would she be able to go back to visit her family up in canada because of the visa number? I was told this visa is supposed to last 10 years so you can file the i-485 anytime (think i remember them saying years)...but is that just lasting while they are here in the USA or like i'm asking if they leave are they allowed back into the country using this visa? And other then that question is there any form you can file during the i-130 or i-485 that can give her a "visa" or way to visit her family if the way I'm thinking above isn't correct?

I never heard that beneficiary will get 10 years immigrant visa. If you are doing AOS, then she shouldn't leave the United States until she filed for I-485 and applied for Advance Parole for traveling. If she left before the AOS, then she will not be able to re-enter United States and she wiil have to apply for a immigrant visa in a consulate.

NO. The I-130 does not directly result in a visa. It allows the beneficiary to apply for a visa. Try to figure out what process you are doing, because you are talking about parts of two different processes and some of the details are wrong. Is she in the US now? How and when did she come? DId she cross the border so you could file the I-485? Best of luck.

The I-130 establishes that a qualified relationship exists between a US citizen or permanent resident and a foreigner. For an immediate relative of a US citizen (spouse or unmarried minor child) an approved I-130 makes an immigrant visa number immediately available.

An available visa number makes a couple of things possible. If the foreigner is currently in the US then they may be eligible to apply for a green card with an I-485, presuming they meet the other requirements. If the foreigner is currently outside the US then they are eligible to apply for an immigrant visa at a US consulate.

A visa number is not the same as a visa. A visa number is required to apply for an immigrant visa. A visa is used to enter the US.

If your wife leaves the US then she may not be permitted to return until she applies for and receives an immigrant visa. Most types of visitor visas specifically prohibit "immigrant intent". You filed an I-130, which establishes her intention to immigrate. You probably should have filed the I-485 at the same time.
