mrsushi66 - Very true and well put... I just have fun with this while I past the time waiting for my beloved. When the dust settles, everyone is going to do what they see fit for themselves anyway. I know that I personally do not have any stake in anyone’s life here on VJ, but this really helps me to deviate from thinking of the stressors of the K1 process. I can’t remember who has this in their profile but it goes something like… “Don’t take life too seriously because none of us make it out alive anyway.” Cheers!

You read that thread in the Russian forum...that is the place where I REALLY feel nauseous.

Did you hear the latest? American women don't have as much as a 'survival instinct' as their Russian counterparts! *thinks* erm, then again, when you look at WHO these women have to deal with to get themselves over here, hrmm, maybe that one's partially true :lol::lol::lol::lol:

A few people have mentioned "materialistic" as a quality that defines "most" American women.

I'm curious -

1) How many American women agree with this assessment (i.e. consider themselves "materialistic"), and

2) Is materialism necessarily a bad quality in a woman / person?

1) We are living in a material world, and I am a material girl. ;)

2) To an extent, it's not a bad thing...it's the drive in all of us which motivates us to work that much harder for our 'dream house' or that holiday you've been wanting, or that swish car that you really want.

Do I value THINGS over relationships/religion/family? Of course not! But I work my azz off to provide my family with the best I possibly can, and that is NOT a bad thing.

If America is so overrun with materialistic women, surely these Amerian men would want to move to their fiancee's country where they have better family values?

I thought not............

Funny that you mention that because I do want to retire in my fiancee's native country. So it's not too far fetched, but it's not because of American materialism. I just like it there... but it's not feasible for me to make that transition right now.

Good lord... so much hate on VJ. I would gladly live in Russia... If they accepted immigrants. There are plenty of 'immigrants' there... illegally. Does not leave much choice.

How is that hateful? Seriously, if a main concern is that the women here are too materialistic, and an overall sentiment is that some foreign fiancees become 'Americanized' (which denotes a bad thing), then a logical next question would be...why not move there?

As one of those foreign women, I have to say I'm disgusted by this thread. Do you guys really think that nationality defines a women's mind (or body)? Or is it just that American women don't take $hit from men like you (gross overgeneralization, sorry)?

I can only speak for myself, but I did not come to this country to get married nor was my husband enticed by my foreigness except to help him learn another language. The rest just happened, and to be honest, the same is true for the many international couples I know.

I wonder why these threads on the defects of American women appear over and over again on this site, but seldomly do we see a thread arguing the opposite, such as American women prefer to marry foreign men because they dress better, have better manner, are less concerned about their cars, and most importantly don't feel the need to live up to some macho-man ideal? How would you feel if you were treated or talked about like some piece of property (and this goes both ways)?

Its degrading to all the forign spouses, in this case women, who come from these countries. The assumption is they are money-grubbing whores who want to use americans for a green card because western culture is "oh so much better" then where they come from. This is not true and the insinuation is hateful Oh.. I don't doubt this happens, but people keep grouping us, and our spouses, all together in the same pile.

the transformation is complete, she's one of us now....muahahahahah!!!!

All joking aside, this post is perfect, but sadly it is on deaf ears, as they will just claim you are 'Americanized'

...yet it's all good to lump American women in one group and speak about us in a degregating fashion?

Alrighty then!

In all seriousness, Chuckles...the question was asked 'if American women are so terrible, and being 'Americanized' carries negative connotations, then why not move there?' I think it's a valid question, since the claim is made repeatedly.

And if you want to know why *I* in particularly make statements the way I do...such as the one about the survival instinct listed somewhere above...perhaps take a read of the Russian forum and the comments made: 'Russian women will be loyal...Russian women don't care what you look like...there is no such thing as not being good looking enough for a Russian woman.....you need a 'solid 7'..and so on and so forth'

....the ones disrespecting Russian women as a collective are the very people who petition to marry them.

My intention in that remark was to ask whether US men would give up the material comforts of the US to go live somewhere else. Most won't, because at the end of the day they probably prize material comforts over the societal norms that produce the qualities they apparently find so attractive in their foreign spouse and lacking in US women.

If you read something else into that it's your problem.

Nope, that is exactly what I read too. And it is still derogatory. You suck.

The OP obviously is a troll and I can't believe he got so many people to bite. There is nothing wrong with American women.

Why is it derogatory? It is about the American and not the spouse -- they complain about the materialism of American women but don't want to give up material things themselves even if it means living somewhere there is supposedly better values than we have here.

because just like the OP painted american women with a broad brush of generalizations.... so too does the statement you made about american men.

nothin wrong with american women or men. we all just found our mates someplace else whether purposefully or not.

Most American men do not complain about American women. Some do I guess. Some American women might do the same about American men. I guess.

I would take love over the 'comforts' of western culture anyday. I think most people would. American men included (especially).
