Air Travel While Waiting for Green Card

My wife applied for the green card in November and she entered the USA on the K1 Fiance Visa back in September. We want to travel by plane from Arizona to another state but I want to make sure that we won't have any problems with the TSA. She currently has a Brazilian passport with I-90 valid until December 2011 and now has a Social Security card.

Is air travel possible while waiting for Green Card in her case? What documentation should we take?

Carry the NOA from the AOS with you. That, with the passport, is all you need.

For extra protection, a copy of the wedding certificate - but not really needed.

However, AZ is weird right now with immigration.

Get a state drivers license, permit or ID card and they will never ask for anything else on domestic flight. Of course take the aforementioned documents. We live in AZ, contrary to the liberal news media, and others not living in a border state or in another galaxy with hight drug and violence issues, AZ LE does not go out of their way to harass aliens, just those who are breaking the law for a probable cause stop. MCSO only does employer sanctions on companies where a employee of the company complains and you have ID theft and Social Security Card Issues. Also I have a nice photo with Sheriff Joe and my wife, signed by him.

You can safely travel anywhere in the US, but take the docs that Bobby suggested to be safe. You will have no problems. Even in AZ.

We went to the AZ MVD to get her a state-issued id but they said it would only be valid until December 3rd, 2011 (the end of the K-1 visa date on passport from entrance). Because of that we didn't get one since it was going to expire in a few days. Is it indeed possible to get a state issued id while waiting for green card? If not, will that be a problem while flying domestically? Thanks again!

I believe that all she needs is a government ID. Her passport should be okay. GC is not necessary for domestic flights. If you purchase her ticket in her married name, take your marriage certificate as proof of name change.

On a different note, I travelled out of the country with my GC (with married name) and passport with my old name. All I needed was my marriage certificate to prove reason name on ticket and GC is different from passport. Anyway that was for international travel, but it may help someone. I had no trouble exiting or entering the US. All the best b
