I'm in the process of purchasing my fiancee's one-way ticket from Cairo to New York. It is not a secret that buying a one-way ticket raises security concerns. I'd like feedback on your experiences with this issue. Have you or your loved ones been grilled with questions by the ticket agent or security? Do they post something in your profile? What have been the main issues?

Or are we being paranoid?

I appreciate your prompt responses.

Have a great day!

Why would a one way ticket raise security concerns? She will be traveling on a K-1 visa, she is not expected to have a round trip ticket, she IS expected to fly to the States and get MARRIED within 90 days. A one way ticket is normal.

Only time anyone buys a round trip ticket for their SO is because its cheaper than the one way ticket.

There is nothing wrong in buying a one way ticket. While you are correct that security concerns could be raised, is just means, that your fiancee will go thru additional screening. Also since she is travelling on K-1 Visa, this shouldn't be an issue at all.

My fiancee is a 'he.' :)

I've read somewhere that someone had an issue during transit (a layover) in another country. I also believe it shouldn't be an issue, especially since I'll make sure he travels on the same airline. However, the proactive side of me wants to cover all loopholes for a "just-in-case" situation.

Thank you all for your responses.

Then HE is a Fiance... not a Fiancee (this is a woman)

The cheapest and most convinient I found was with Etihad. I've never traveled with them, so I don't have first hand experience on their service. My FIANCE claims is a nice airline. I go with safe, on time and hassle-free (if that's even possible). That said, he is 6'6" so in his case I'm looking at their fleet. He requires leg room!

Buy the cheapest ticket; you can space the dates out many months and use the return ticket to maybe actually return and visit family.

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

Etihad is a nice airline. I've flown it before, it's out of UAE. It's Abu Dhabi's airline compared to Dubai's flashy Emirates airlines. The cities are actually a pretty good characterization of each airline. Etihad is more 'working man' (if I can say that) than Emirates airlines but still a very good airline. I'd say it meets your requirements but I don't remember about the leg room.

Congrats!

This really helps a lot thank you. Are they as rude as American Airlines?

:) I wouldn't say they were rude at all. Customer service is not always the best in UAE but we didn't have any specific issues with Etihad to need customer service. The actual flights gave us nothing to complain about. It certainly is not a shady airline.

Did you need a transit visa to stop in Abu Dhabi?
