During your interview or somewhere on the forms you filled up, there was a form for you to sign to give them authority to get a SSN for you.. If you did that, you just need to wait till it comes in the mail, but if you didn't, you can go to your local social security administration to get it.

For your green card, you don't have to do anything, they will mail that to you as soon as its done.. :)

By the way, none of these cards needs to be paid :)

Congratulations! And welcome to USA:)

In my wife's case, we did select the option on the application to have a SSN and card sent after entry.

However, a few weeks after she entered the country, we still did not receive the card yet, so we went to the local Social Security office to find out. The representative told us that we never had an application filed, and asked if we checked with their office after she entered. We replied that we did not, and we filed for a new card there. Got the Social Security card in about a week after that (or roughly 3 weeks after entry).

As for the Green Card, we were told it was to take 30-60 days after entry, so we were a little more patient with that one. In any case, the Virginia DMV, Social Security Administration, the community college, and the SFO CBP (after we made one trip to Japan while waiting for it) all took the endorsed CR-1 visa without any issues as it was valid for one year (while waiting for the green card). Depending on who you ask, the Green Card could take anywhere from 30 days (if you follow the DHS website) to six months (as was explained by the SFO CBP officer when we returned to USA in early December, saying that the card production was '...backed up.')

But we did make an InfoPass appointment with DHS to find out the status of the wife's Green Card, and found out that they had it produced in mid-October (two weeks after arrival) but it was sent to our old address (we moved to a new house after she arrived). So hopefully it will arrive before the end of the year (or roughly three months after entry).

In our case Social Security Card arrived first; however if you are lucky Green Card is not too far behind...

For what it's worth, I entered the US on the CR-1 visa on Nov 18 and just received my green card in the mail two days ago (Dec 12).

Still waiting on the SSN. I selected the option on the application to have the SSN sent after entry as well. We are planning on giving it a few weeks more before paying a visit to our local SSN office as it is a 2-hour drive each way.

Everything I've read says that if you fill out the section on an immigrant visa application form your SSN will automatically be mailed to you, as stated on the SSA link below:

http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10096.html#2

However, it does also say to apply in person at the local office if you don't receive your SSN within 3 weeks of entering the US, so I guess it's time for the husband and I to plan a long drive. :bonk::lol:

The SSN might arrive in the mail if they ticked the box in the application. It's advise to wait at least 2 weeks after POE, if the SSN hasn't arrived, then they can go to the nearest Social Security Office and request it. Green Card should arrive in the mail as well.
