i just now called up NVC, an operator told me My packet IV documents received. but Original marriage certificate missing.

But i am sure i have sent Original marriage cerificate issued by government authories. I have sent colour photocopy of it also. Dont know whether they got confused between Original and Colour photocopy.

i dont know why they are telling original cerificate is missing. How can i clarify this to NVC officier.

pls help. anybody had similar experience

I think, that is possible reason for them to get confused with color photocopy. Did you mention all this to executive when you talked? May be, Just try to talk to their supervisor, hope they can help you with this.

I got an RFE for the same thing. Very frustrating because I was 100% positive that I had sent them the original and a copy!

Turns out, it wasn't missing after all....they had a problem with the 'authenticity' of it. Not saying this is what is wrong in your case, but just putting it out there as a possibility.

Hopefully it wont take long to sort out....we were delayed for three weeks because we had to have a supervisor review our case. It's a worry when the NVC can't even 'authenticate' a marriage certificate from their own country!

Good luck!

I don't think you actually need to talk to a supervisor to have them review the documents. I also had an RFE for our marriage certificate. When I talked to an operator, the only thing he could tell me was to be sure I send an original, and that we need to obtain it from the Registro Civíl (in Chile). I told him we did that, he said we could either provide a new one, or he could request that a supervisor review what we sent, but that could take up to three weeks. I ended up just sending another, because I already had a second one in my possession (one of the few times I had the good sense to request two originals).

If you're in a situation where you're sure you sent the correct document, and it would be a hardship to get another original, I would call the NVC and ask the operator to have a supervisor review it.

@SmileAlways: If you have multiple copies of marriage certificate, then you may consider to send the original Marriage Certificate. Sending doc from India to USA, it may just take 3-4 days, they may review it few days. So it is better deal rather than waiting for 3 weeks.

uhm, call back to NVC.

ask for a supervisor.

then request that the supervisor initiate a request for another 'eyeball review' of the marriage certificates, to have both reviewed (original and colour copy).

then ya wait a few days, call back again, ask for status.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I always write with a pencil at top of a document either " copy " or " original " . I think that helps ? I dont know. I think if they see the word original they look more thoroughly at it.

I too have only one original marriage certificate. How can we get copies?

If you go to marriage registrar where your marriage was originally registered, and request for duplicate copies then they would issue that to you. In other words, duplicate copies look like original.

I found something in Chennai, it is easy to get duplicate copies of marriage registration rather than certified copies. Because in Chennai, they denied to give certified copies as they dont understand what exactly is that. Even I explained but they dont understand. But they were more willing to issue duplicates copies within same day.

Just give some bucks, they should issue you anyway.
