One more question Since we are planning on going to New York on Jan 30th, what would happen if we turned in the i330 form before? They would send all the information to our Estonian address right? So we would have to wait til we get back to complete all the paper work and next steps? Or could we do it from New York too (minus the interview and medical exam)?

You never get the greencard at interview. You get a visa in your passport, which you use to immigrate, and the greencard is then sent to your US address. The reason it only took me such a short time is because I could file DCF (direct consular filing= filing directly with the embassy). This is no longer possible in most countries, only those that have USCIS offices in the country- Estonia is not one of them. Your wife can only immigrate to the USA and live here once she has the visa in her passport. It will take 9-12 months to get that visa. She can visit you on her tourist visa/ visa waiver in the meantime.

You can do the paperwork from the USA. You can specify a US address for yourself, or just have someone in Estonia who can check your mail and fax/ scan any paperwork received to send to you in the US.

'interview in New York' - sorry, that's not for any visa, only for an AOS case.

In the end, both result in a green card.

Ok so I'm getting ready to send in the forms and am stuck on the payment part. Do I have to pay right now, when I'm just sending the I330 form and all related documents? If so, how can I pay by credit card?

What is this form I330 you keep talking about? Do you mean I-130, for the petition of a spouse? If so, read the Guides: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1 before you do anything, as they explain everything including payment very well, and you don;t want to make any mistakes.

Anyway, I looked at the site and it says we can do a money order but it doesn't give details? Should we just send it to the same address that we are sending all the forms?

No, the actual payment must accompany the file.

At the POE the petitioner becomes a permanent resident. The paperwork is sent to the government form the officers at the POE and the Green card is sent to the petitioner at your USA address.

If I were you, I'd file the I130 immediately.

Just look at the time lines. I filed in July and we are still waiting for approval!

ds 230 is the Immigrant Visa application form.. it comes after the I 130 is approved. DS 230 and Affid of Support will fall on the same time..

here's a short cut of the processes you will go thru: for the first few steps.. may take up to 5 months

I- 130 = CR1 petition

you will receive NOA1 = Notice that USCIS got ur petition

NOA2 = Approval/Denial notice of the petition

The DS 230 will follow after your I130 is approved...
