K1 Interview Experience

I arrived there at 8 am sharp, and after going through clearance with a couple of nice and a couple of not so nice guards, I was admitted to the second floor, where there were a few people already being given the document order list and a password number. My papers were already in order so I just sat and waited for my number to be called. I handed in my papers and the brazilian lady gave me back the pay stubs from the affidavit, saying I had too many papers.

Then we started the waiting game. Around 10:30 we were told the consulars were late, and would start interviewing in about 30 minute, and that we could go outside for a coffee or something to eat, etc. Pretty much everyone left, including me (and Mew, and Jana. ).

Short after we were back the consular started calling people in, in no particular order. Around noon I was called into the little room and was greeted by the very same nice consular Mew got. She thought it was really nice that I spoke English and asked if she could interview me in English. She also asked how I knew English so well and I told her about my exchange program back in 1996. After that she sworn me in (in Portuguese) and proceeded the rest of the interview in English.

Questions asked:

- How Luis and I met.

- If I plan to work in US. (at this point we chatted about how great it'd be if I proceeded my law career there, and that I indeed should try getting my credits done and sit the bar exam there)

- What language do Luis and I speak in. ('cus since he's from Puerto Rico, she had to know if he speaks English, although that came with another chat about how people tend to think portuguese and spanish are similar and we laughed about it and she asked if I spoke Spanish or English with Luis)

- If my family would be at the wedding (another chit chat about how I'll just do a civil wedding now and that later we plan to have a party here in Brasil 'cus my family is bigger and she laughed and said "great! 2 parties is much better than just one!")

In short, it was more of a chat than an interview and she gave me the green slip and congratulated me on the wedding and asked if I'd pick my visa up or get it send through FEDEX.

I was so nervous before I couldn't believe how easy it went and how I was able to smile and chat with the consular like that.

Like Mew, I'll rate the experience 4 out of 5 because of the long waiting.
