Defraud? Then why is it that once the unemployment employee ask if your in a trades union and you answer "yes", your good to go? Is it maybe because they know something you don't? If you have never worked construction and you don't have a clue about it then why argue about it? Learn up on it first and then come back and press your case.

And I'm guessing you think people that r@pe sheep have rights also eh?

Yes Kip, you are defrauding the system. You could go and get a job, but you prefer to sit on your butt. It may be common practice amongst, but that doesn't make it right, or even necissarily legal. Even people who beat their wives get rights, so I suppose people that commit beastiality get them too. Both are equally repugnant.

Write your congressman and tell them you are tired of construction workers receiving unemployment even when they could be working and see how far it gets you. Somebody has to do the work and they realize this. Unskilled illegal immigrants can't do it, and neither can untrained kids. So what's that leave you with? Try a big nothing.

If no one ever got more than what they put in, it wouldn't be insurance.

That's true. That's why I said to a certain extent. If everybody got more than they put in, the program wouldn't be solvent. Some people will get more and that's OK. At the same time, you shouldn't be able to make a career out of it.

it's really amusing to see where 2 fellas got 'welfare' and 'unemployment compensation' utterly confoozled.

While they're not apples to apples, they are similar programs. "Here's free money for doing absolutely nothing."

It's the system.

LOL? Are you for real or what? I agree with most of what you post on this board, but that one is completely out there. Most people and businesses are motivated by money. If you gave the businesses a free reign you would have more environmental problems along with worker safety issues than you could shake a stick at.

Anyone who thinks big business won't take advantage if they are given a free reign is suffering from a total lack of knowledge in regards to the industry. Businesses don't usually like paying for safety measures, but with the heavy fines being doles out these days it's more of a detriment to them and now you see guys being fired for violating safety rules and that's the way it should be. Nothing should be more important than human life when it comes to making a dollar. Human life > any bs excuse

So you want a big government when it benefits you but no government when it doesn't?

It's obvious your not in the construction industry and it's almost impossible to explain it to someone who doesn't know how it works.

I come from a long line of construction dudes and just about every male in my family is in construction or related industry. I know exactly what you're talking about. Some men feel entitled to work part of the year simply because they do "all the hard work that nobody else will do." They say things like "I can't help it there's no jobs in the winter. I can't help it they don't need nobody this month."

What I never hear them talking about is how they make twice as much money as they should and only work 1/2 the time. What's really funny is they dog teachers because they only work 9 months of the year or firefighters because they work a rotating schedule with lots of days off.

The fact is you work in the industry you choose. If you don't like the pay or schedule.... don't work it. Also, you don't need to tell me I don't understand. A third grader could understand.

I call those guys p*ssies. Any guy that can't handle it in the construction trades is a giant p8ssy in my eyes.

I think guys who can't provide for themselves without tax dollars are p*ssies. You're no different than someone sitting at home collecting welfare. I know you justify it by saying you've earned it. But the fact remains you're spending someone else's money right now.

I pay plenty in taxes. In fact they take out well over $2,000 - $3,000 a week out of my check for FICA alone when I'm working up north. I have no idea where that money goes but I can sure b*tch about it.

Point.

You're b*tching about yourself.

The problem is not the "taker", it's the program.

I never blame people for geting the "freebies"

unless they do it by fraud or deception.

IF the Gov. is stupid enough to structure a program so that people can buy $400 a month in junk food (or lobster) off their food stamps, don't blame the person receiving the good blame you and me for allowing such stuff.

I have not been on unemployment since I was out of the military, and as a self employed person I don't think I could even collect now.... but if I could and needed to I would.

I know someone who has been collecting well over a year I think, they extend it and he keeps it coming.

They are apples to oranges. If you don't work an at least X amount of hours, you don't receive unemployment. Now explain what you have to do in order to receive unemployment seeing how I just posted about it on here.

So you want a big government when it benefits you but no government when it doesn't?

I call into a computer system, not sure how that plays into big government seeing how I have no idea how many peeps it takes to run a computer and have my unemployment direct deposited into my bank account. I'm guessing it's not many.

I come from a long line of construction dudes and just about every male in my family is in construction or related industry. I know exactly what you're talking about. I can't help it they don't need nobody this month."

It's just that nobody else will do those jobs, if the work isn't there, it isn't there. If you build X amount of pipeline from point A to point B and they don't call for any new pipeline from point B to point C...well then the job is finished and that's that. You can't make work where there isn't any hence the reason so many pipe fitters, field electricians, welders, etc.. travel around the country chasing the work.

What I never hear them talking about is how they make twice as much money as they should and only work 1/2 the time. What's really funny is they dog teachers because they only work 9 months of the year or firefighters because they work a rotating schedule with lots of days off.

"Making twice as much money as they should"??? LOL? And how much money should they be making? The wages meet the markets demand and vice versa so I don't know how they are making twice as much money as they should be making. When someone goes through years of apprenticeship schooling and works X amount of hours in order to be qualified to do journeyman's work I do believe they meet the requirements of collecting a fair wage for their work. Pipe fitters, HVAC, electricians all have to have algebra, blue print reading, etc... and on top of that most of them work in super sh*tty conditions in order to get the job done. It's crappy work and a lot of us like myself complain about it every day were out there freezing our nuts off but it pays well and it's what we chose to do. B*tching about it help makes the time go by quicker when were out there. Usually the major b*tch is some suit who didn't have a clue put out crappy blue prints that don't work for the job. Then it's time to make up as we go so that everything fits and works like it was suppose to.

But again as far as the wages go, we earn those wages. It's the skilled trades that make sure that oil comes out of the ground, into the pipes, processed so it flows through the lines in sub zero temps and makes it to the Valdez terminal and loaded up on tankers to be processed at a refinery. The oil companies are making billions off that oil, and what they pay is is peanuts compared to their profits. I'm sure if they could find a cheaper way to get labor they would. But again it's supply and demand along with job skills and people willing to work in those conditions. I know plenty of guys that work for less money and they work year round in a nice heated environment. Good for them if that's what they choose to do, but when they tell me I make too much money for the short months I work, I think to myself that guy had to put in a resume to get his job, do a background check and probably has those worker evaluations along with dressing up nice for the job all in order to make less money than I do. I can go tell my boss to go fck himself and know I still have a job. Chances are he's going to tell me to go fck myself back and were both going to laugh because that's all we can do. But for the guys who have to get on their knees and stick a you know what in their mouth all for less money...lol.. I'm not cut out like that. The guys who feel they should be paid less for their work are the same guys who just might wake up one day with a pen0r in their mouth and decide they like it. Not happening here. I still have respect enough for myself and I value my testicles too much to give em up. This is a capitalist society and money is what makes the world go around along with allowing me to put a roof over my head and food in my gut. I want to be paid as much as possible for my work than to take it up the ####### for principles.

The fact is you work in the industry you choose. If you don't like the pay or schedule.... don't work it. Also, you don't need to tell me I don't understand. A third grader could understand.

Yes I did choose this line of work...and it sort of chose me. It's in the family at least three generations back and as much as I complain about it, I wouldn't give it up unless I found something better that paid as well. The time off is nice for travelling, but I can survive without it. I'm not talking as if your a third grader, and if it comes across that way I appologize. What I am saying is that your not in this trade working it for whatever reason and it's pretty obvious you missed the boat on such simple things as worker safety in regards to commercial construction and or the oil industry. I have no idea how many office, retail and warehouse workers get killed by falling down a drill pit that wasn't barricaded nor do I know how many of them get ran over by a piece of heavy equipment and crushed to death when they slipped and fell on the ice.

I'l tell you how much you are worth and what's good and isn't good for your job when I work it. Until then I'm only assuming.

I think guys who can't provide for themselves without tax dollars are p*ssies. You're no different than someone sitting at home collecting welfare. I know you justify it by saying you've earned it. But the fact remains you're spending someone else's money right now.

The fact remains that I poured a sh*tload of money into the system, and why should I go take a job that will last for 12 weeks tops and screw me out of my unemployment while putting me at the bottom of the list to work at the union hall? That's not being a p*ssy, it's being smart and looking out for my family. I'l take the call out this summer when I can see getting more than a few months work. Six months is the sweet spot for the fact it gives me plenty of money to live on for the rest of the year, and allows me to collect unemployment if the work runs out.

Point.

You're b*tching about yourself.

Point of the matter is I like to b*tch period. And if I knock fat ares collecting welfare then so be it. Again you want me to explain the difference between unemployment and welfare or do you have google? Apparently the government figured it out in regards to the construction industry.

I lived in 6 European countries and briefly in India before moving to Florida and finally to California. I have visited a total of 32 countries, and finally I've found heaven. California has the nicest weather (which is incredibly important for me), the nicest people (due to the relaxed lifestyle based on the fantastic weather), the 13th strongest economy . . . no, not in the U.S., . . . . in the World (!), and after having visited family in Cheyenne, Wyoming in late 2009 (all of who since moved to San Diego), I can honestly say for me California is number 1 and Wyoming is number 50, which is exactly the opposite of what Wall Street thinks.

Who really cares what Wall Street thinks anyway?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

So the top 10 are states with nobody living there. How hard is that to do?

Much harder. Less people topay taxes. Per capita it makes it much more difficlut to have a viable public transportation system with only 42.000 people in a city but we do it here.

How many other US cities of 42,000 isolated from any other large cities by several hundred miles have a viable transport system?

This really depends on how you count things. I have seen differing analyses on the subject without completely different conclusions (some say California is holding up the world while others say it is a giant leech). I haven't had the time to dig deeper, but what data are you using to support this conclusion?

OK, well, it isn't hard to find supporting information. States are divided up into 2 categories: Donor States and Beneficiary States.

According to the Federal Tax Foundation, from 1981-2005, Calif is usually in the top ten "Donor" states, meaning it pays the Feds more tax monies that it receives back. Mississippi is the Leech.

So what say you now?
