We got really tired of them and their griping!

(If people are sick of me griping about the UK, be patient...hopefully we'll be leaving in a few months. ONE CAN HOPE.)

Hehehe, think I'm being passive/aggressive? Just wait till you move to 'Bama.

I was just listing my honest feelings on the matter of moving there. Honestly if you gripe about the UK then how can you be mad at anyone else griping about a new place? :P

Well some people don't like being offended but have no thought about offending others....

i'm offended that you're not offended :P

Bama? Hell no. If I'm gonna move south, it'll be either the Raleigh/Durham area or somewhere in Tejas (Dallas/Austin/Houston).

Because I'm leaving the UK, not trying to move to it.

To be honest I am not the kind of person who will go around pointing out things I don't like when I am actually there. I won't go around talking to people saying "oh what a funny accent" like an idiot. When I visited there I liked it. I liked the scenery, I liked the nice people I met, and the houses are charming and cheap. I didn't say I don't like southern people. I said I didn't want the accent. I know that irritates you but I'm being honest. What I don't like is rednecks, but I have seen plenty already in Florida. I DO like southern hospitality. I know that rednecks and southerners are not the same thing.

Oh good, I didn't want to have to explain the difference.

I still don't get the weirdness regarding southern accents, but I wouldn't want my kids to talk like someone from New Jersey, so I guess it's a two-way street.

...moving to Austin and they all complained constantly about the things you just complained about...the accents, the weather, the 'racism.' They wanted things to be just like they were back home...

Question: Why the quotes around the word 'racism'?

Because Austin isn't really a racist place.

Raleigh-Durham is very nice, but it's godawful BORING. We spent a week there in 2004 and had trouble finding things to do. The people were the most polite I had ever met in my life, though. They were wonderful.

I think you'd like Dallas or Austin. I'll show 'em to you sometime if you want...after we get there of course.

 yes, I know. But it is very nice and I like the people, very polite, great professional prospects and a good blend of north and south. 'Bama is much cheaper but my benchmark is New Jersey so RDU home prices look good to me :)

LOL Idaho stereotype: that state is full of Nazis who couldn't take all the color in California.

Boise is alright. Micron and HP have huge offices there.

All this time I've been hoping the invasion of Californians will bring some liberals to the state...

come on!! :D

To be honest I would have said the same about alabama not long ago!! It wasn't until after I visited that I admitted I had the wrong idea about that place, or at least the area I went to. I've always liked east Tennessee, in the smokies, and north Alabama is a very similar looking area but the houses are a bit cheaper.

The UK is my now-benchmark so most real estate in the US looks ridiculously cheap to me.

Not really. I have no plans to move to New Jersey, hence there is no chance that they'll acquire that accent. However, you're trying to move to Alabama but want your kids not to sound local. Bit of a difference there.

Look into Alberquerque(sp) NM. Lots of chillies there to help you prepare proper dinners for your hubby.

Prolly not as cheap as 'Bama though.
