W-2s needed?

I am about to submit my papers for I-864. I have IRS transcripts for my 3 most recent tax returns. Am I required to submit W-2 forms as well? I've read conflicting information.

Also, does anyone have a cover letter example they could share so I know what all to include on it?

If you are submitting transcripts, you do not submit W2 forms.

Also, does anyone have a cover letter example they could share so I know what all to include on it?

For a cover letter, just make a bullet list of all items in the package.

The only time you need to include W2s with IRS transcripts is if you filed jointly and need to show your own income. Other than that, no, you don't need W2s with IRS tax transcripts.

We submitted IRS Tax Transcripts for all 3 years but at interview they asked if we can provide the copies of actual returns. I know either is the requirement but it may be good to send both.

Also I was a student till May and then started working with big salary. But we were asked if we can provide co-sponsor eventhough I had wages during student period above the 125%. Of course we were prepared and hence gave my Dad's I-864 set and after checking that set, they said that the case was then strong. Just a 2cents worth of my input regarding the requirements and actual situation - may not be same at all consulates/ embassies.

As with so many things, every consulate is a little bit different. While the majority of the time transcripts are fine, there is always the exception. Please contact your consulate well before the interview to ask not just about W-2's but about everything. Once we had the interview date locked in, I sent an email asking them to review the package from NVC to see if they needed anything else, and the answer was yes--the police report had expired (it is only good for 90 days in Costa Rica), and that everything else was OK.
