Hi VJers, we are very glad that we found VJ and started our journey with the help from all you guys. Today (10/25) wife got through her interview successfully. We thanks all of you from the bottom of our hearts. May the good Lord bless you all.

Chennai Consulate didn't allow me in but wife could get in an hour early at 12 noon (interview at 1 PM). The first person checked all her documents, photos and asked her for my 1040 (we submitted I-864 using IRS Tax Transcripts). Since we were ready with copies of 2010, 2009 & 2008 tax returns, she gave those to him. He then browzed through the I-864 documents asked if she will be able to provide any co-sponsor as I was a student for 2 years prior to my current employment. We were ready for this too and she gave him my dad's I-864 and he than said that the case now very strong for favorable consideration.

Then her finger prints were taken and at 1:10, I had my interview with the CO (a young American lady) and here are the questions she asked.

Q1 - Is yours an arranged marraige?

A1 - Yes.

Q2 - How did the proposal come about?

A2 - She explained in detail.

Q3 - How many guests were present at your wedding?

A3 - She answered 16.

Q4 - Only 16?

A4 - She answered saying that it was a registered marraige and only 16 were allowed inside the Marraige Registrar's Office and that we had reception after that.

Then she asked for marraige album and hardly looked at two or three pictures and gave it back.

Q5 - When did you husband move to US?

A5 - She answered it.

Q6 - What is his occupation?

A6 - She ansered it.

Than she told her that the visa will be couriered in 7 business days. So she was out by 1:15 PM.

It looks like AOS is taking the prime importance at the Consulates - particularly in India. For those that will be attending their interviews, I strongly suggest that you take a copy of tax returns if you have submitted IRS Tax Transcripts (yesterday they asked for W-2s of Ganesh during hios wife's interview). And to those that were students in the past 3 years, please take a co-sponsor set even if you are now making 100,000.

Once again I thanks all the VJers for their contribution to our succssful journey.

Hearty Congratulations NavyK!!!

My husband is my only sponsor. Do we need a co-sponsor still? When he filed the AOS he did not do it with a cosponsor. I do not understand this. He was not exactly a student there. He is doctor in training, not a med student though.

Tphatak, I worked till July 2009 and joined for my MBA, so my income for 2008 & 2009 were good. Since I worked only as an intern during summer, my 2010 wages were not sufficient to cover 2 and I started my current employment on 6/27 only. Though I earned 35,000 already they asked my wife if she can provide a co-sponsor to make the case strong. So even if we didn't submit the co-sponsor I-864, I think she would have made it through the interview, as the current income is good.

So if you husband's wages are good (unlike my 2010 wages), then you should be fine. But if you don't want to take any risk, just take a I-864 set of a co-sponsor (submitted I-864, 2010, 2009 & 2008 IRS Tax Transcripts, Employment letter, Naturalization Certificate, W-2 (as dad files jointly) of Dad).

Thanks Magical, Cbriceno, JP&BP, PantomimeGoose, Leatherneck & Munequita y osito.

Ok please pardon my ignorance, but, don't we have to submit all the co-sponsor documents to the NVC first? Or should I just carry co-sponsor documents to the interview and then show them if needed?

NVC was ok with my I-864 and closed my case and sent it to the Consulate for Interview.

Strucly speaking that is suffcient in most of the cases but the final authority regarding AOS (I-864) or Visa application (DS-230) is the CO at the Consulate and not the NVC.

So once your AOS is found to be alright at NVC, it is good that we proactively take additional stuff to interview (including additional evidence of continuing relationship) depending on our individual circumstances. Since I was a student during my marraige, I thought it good to take my Dad's I-864 and it worked. Probably we still might have made it through with his I-864 but why take chances when we are able to make our case strong.

Ok. I think we will take a call about it soon after I discuss this with my husband. Thank you for your help. I also had one more question for you. Do you think I will be able to travel to the US on my tourist visa if I am unable to get a December interview date? I have job interviews lined up. I have a valid tourist visa currently.
