Hi all.

i hold a Italian master degree (3+2) in Pr and Communication.

what should i do in order to be at least considered when applying for a any kind of job in USA ?

should i evaluate my degree with those "credential evaluation agencies" like WES and enroll to some univ so i can get a American degree indispensable to job market?

or just put on my resume that i am educated and hold Italian PR master degree?

i am waiting for AOS after entering as a K1. the money would be a problem for the uni but in long term it will worth it.

suggestions, experiences and guides are very welcomed.

thank you guys

Hi! I have a degree in Communications/PR too. I went to an American University, though. I work in Marketing now. I don't think you need to do any extra schooling. You may want to be sure to check and re-check your English spelling/grammar on any cover letters/resumes. Having a small mistake like that is the easiest way to be overlooked, (for anyone, not just ESL applicants ((you are ESL, right?)) but you will have it tougher I am sure).

Something I found to be a big help in finding a job was providing a solid portfolio displaying your project/work experience. In the end it isn't going to matter what degree you have or from where, but how much experience and how well you can do the job.

If you truly have a Masters in COMM you shouldn't have to do continuing eduction. Just be extra careful to avoid minor mistrakes which might put you at an immediate disadvantage.

Hope this helps some!

Just thought of this too: Maybe you can provide proof of degree from your Univ.?

You should just include it in your resume. As stated above, make sure your cover letter is well written and free of errors when applying for jobs.

As far as writing a resume is concerned I would like to suggest you a couple of things

First...figure out what kind of work you would like to do.

Go to careerbuilder.com or monster.com and search for similar jobs and pay particular attention to the requirements. This will help you to pick up some key words to use in your resume. Most online recruiters search for prospect employees by key words.

Second... If you are not sure how to build your resume in a professional way to reflect your education and achievements hire a resume writing company and they will do the work for you. This services might run on the expensive side and set you back up to 400 dollars ( including cover page) but they work. This is from personal experience

Dont worry about spelling if you write your own resume. There is always spell check ( my best friend)

As far as what you can do with your degree here I am not sure but like I said earlier use your knowledge of languages wisely. The business world is a global arena now and not everybody speaks English. Be on the look out for some translating/interpreting work for international companies. That way you can get your foot in the door

Good Luck

Thank you guys for your time and suggestions. much appreciated.

Right now I've just sent AOS envelope including EAD. so i guess i have to wait for the EAD first.

I have prof of degrees from Italy.

In VJ there are a lot of posts of people who do credential evaluation process and i thought i have to do it.

I will be saving my money for now... :)

I have to look a bit about how to make the perfect resume. in EU we used a lot the Europass CV template. i guess here its different.

thank you all
