What about prescription drugs that have been approved and later they find out cause serious complications or even death - like Vioxx? Other types of drugs, like bio-identical hormones, which are better for the human body - as they are made from sweet potatoes - will never go through the FDA because they can't get the financing to test them. Whereas horse piss, which is in the prescribed FDA approved drugs for hormone therapy, are now found to cause cancer.

I wouldn't say the science is paid for, but they (like most governmental agencies) are beholden to Big Pharma over anything else.

On top of that they ban a lot of stupid ####### that is perfectly ok to eat, yet think people don't know what they are eating....

I wouldn't say the science is paid for, but they (like most governmental agencies) are beholden to Big Pharma over anything else.

On top of that they ban a lot of stupid ####### that is perfectly ok to eat, yet think people don't know what they are eating....

We're talking about a guy who believes what he wants to believe.

Never graduated high school.

Chronically unemployed.

Believes that scientists can't really tell how old a rock is (so I ask: Are you saying you think the earth is possibly only 6,000 years old?)...He didn't answer but pretty much I know that's what he thinks.

Late term abortions are legal.

I tell him about how Muslims view Jesus (born by a virgin, performed miracles, is 1 of their prophets, mentioned more than Muhamed in the qu'ran, etc.). For some reason he doesn't want to believe it. Not sure why? I say I'll look it up and send you the links over email..."You think because some guy on a blog says it it is true?"

I swear he thinks the internet is a place where only blogs exist?

On his laptop - he covers the webcam with a piece of tape...He's paranoid like that...

Is that normal (I know it's not)?

Afraid to register his email on his smart phone...

The list could seriously go on for pages..

I was just talking to my Dad today about something like this. We were talking about people from here who have traveled in just two places - Michigan and Florida (and they only travel by airplane, so they miss all the states in between). Then there are the people who have traveled quite extensively around the world, but who just seem to have these extremely narrow views of certain things that completely baffle us. We realized that people are just the weirdest beings on earth, and you just can't figure them out.

I've been dealing with these 'debates' with him for about a year.

I don't feel superior. I feel bad for a person like him. I'm embarrassed for him - if he were to discuss some of his views with a scientist.

To paraphrase Dawkins - A person believing the earth is 6,000 years old is the equivalence of believing the width of the US, from one coast to the other, is about 7 yards.

Facts don't exist in his mind.
