Hi!

I have been so blessed the past few days. I arrived here in the States safely, I just got married, and just today, I had my first job interview and was accepted!

Now...here's my issue...I didn't think I'd get a job right away. I just recently applied for my SSN, and I'm just going to apply for my EAD...my work starts next Monday. Can I go ahead and work? It's just that this is such a big opportunity for me.

No you cannot work without the EAD or green card. It is NOT legal.

If you got the 90-day EAD (valid exactly as long as the K-1, nonrenewable), then yes.

Otherwise, you need to wait till you have your proper EAD in hand.

I read on a USCIS site, or was it another forum?? (my head spins with these things!) that you CAN begin working straight away. Ring the USCIS office and get it from them would be my advice. Congratulations on your run of good luck :)

sounds like you needed to do a little more research before you accepted a job this fast.. you may want to tell your new future boss you may not be legal to start work on monday.. until you get the sorted out :devil:

it costs 400$ and you have to apply for it and it will expire before you even get it. It expires the same day as your I-94 and you cannot work when its expired. Moot point.

Again you cannot work without the EAD card or GC.

No. You can't work on a K-1 visa unless you have your EAD, which is either given to you via the AOS or you send in the Form I-765 (which will only be valid for the length of your I-94 (90 days) - but it usually takes longer to process than the amount of time left on your I-94.

Her SSN will probably say it requires a DHS work authorization. (for example, the EAD or GreenCard) -- since she will not have either - the employer can't legally have her work.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

A k1 entrant to this country CANNOT WORK right away they have to apply for EAD card when they do AOS. That is the LAW

E-verify website that checks your legal status before you can be hired.
