My fiance has a bachelor's degree in nursing from the Philippines. What would all need to be done for her to be able to get a job in that field here in the USA?? I am unsure of the requirements for her to take NCLEX or if there was more to it than that?? Appreciate speedy response, thank you!

Each State has their own requirements. You need to go online and type in Professional registered nurse Board of Nursing...California or Ohio or wherever. Then make sure you have the correct legal website and search it for international nurse requirements.

Good luck

I agree with togetherforever13..same thing with nurses, lawyers, teachers- you still have to study in that state where you want to work get certain requirements. Having a background in nursing would make her study easier though.

For the nurses here to work abroad, they have to pass board exam, NCLEX, english proficiency and must have gained couple of years related work experience. An angency will find them a job but there's an oversupply here of nursing graduates making them difficult to get an work experience.

If you search the first few pages on this forum you should come across a thread from another Filipino nurse that laid it out very well. And check out allnurses.com International section.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/321084-uk-student-nurse/ I guess it was for California! But like the others have stated, check with the State. Should be a lot of info on allnurses.com

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

But if the Nurse is already in the states through K-1 visa, she need not take english proficiency and no need for a specific number of years related work experience. She only needs to pass NCLEX exam. You try to search your state's Board of Nursing for you to be guided in the requirements. Goodluck!

I too am trying to sort out my registration before i come over. I am really confused and annoyed because the Ohio Board of Nursing doesn't return my husbands phone calls and doesn't reply to emails! I know I have to have my credentials validated by some company first but I can't figure out if I have to send original transcripts to both the credentialling place and the board! Very very frustrating

Keep trying with the Board, maybe even info on their website. And check out allnurses.com International forum, oodles of info there
