I-131 Advance Parole question

We are FINALLY going to file the AOS paperwork but I wanted to make some final I-131 checks.

We are not sure about the details of our proposed trip(s) so we answered in the following fashion:

Date of Intended Departure: Unknown

Expected Length of Trip: Unknown

Purpose of trip: Visit family in Japan

List of countries you intend to visit: Japan

How man trips do you intend to use this document? Multiple

The main purpose of the Advance Parole is to visit family in Japan. However, since this is a one year document and allows for multiple re-entry I thought maybe we can use it to visit the UK, Germany, or even go next door to Canada.

Is it better to include the other countries besides Japan and add a description of the purpose of the trip(s) as vacation. Or just go with Japan only (with multiple trips checked) and use the document for 1 year and also potentially go to the other countries?

It won't matter. The AP does not have any stipulations on it as to which countries you can travel to, and it is routinely approved. What you have written for the reason for applying for it seems fine. I had a very roundabout explanation when I applied for mine. You don't need to justify for the need for AP, and you can use it to travel anywhere during its validity.

You don't need to add any description of trips. Don't worry about being too detailed. Mine said the same as yours but Australia instead of Japan.

There's no attachment explaining the need for AP. When applying based on AOS it's not required.

Hello Yagisama,

I had no idea what to write for AP documents as well, and I didn't have any plan to go abroad in near future, but just in case something happened, like I somehow got hospitalized and had to go back to JP for a while, or something... (you never know, right!?! haha) Anyway, I filled up as I might go visit my parents in JP in Nov., for two weeks.

And today, I found out that my AP got approved last week;)

Wish you and your wife a wonderful married life, and good luck on your AOS!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I kept it very simple and only listed Japan.

Thank you and congratulations on getting your AP approved!

Hopefully we can get our AP approved quickly so we can go to Tokyo for New Year. Seems like I visit there every year and watch that red and white song battle! :energy:

We may also go to Ishikawa prefecture to visit some relatives. It's just too bad I've already used up all my vacation days!!!
