Some of you know that Wes and I have been trying to sell our home. Our goal is to buy a smaller house, in town, more suited to our soon-to-be empty nest.

We had the house listed for 90 days and came up empty handed.

Tomorrow we begin in earnest our 'For Sale By Owner' campaign. We've purchased a one-month ad in a local publication with massive circulation. The ad will contain this web address:

www.freewebs.com/shakerhouse

I'm at work right now and Wes is at home adding photographs to the site. Thought you might enjoy this work in progress....LOL...it also puts pressure on him 'cause I'm gonna phone him and tell him you all are watching!

Very nice presentation, rebeccajo. Just a recommendation, if you are really intent on making a sale, why not skew your pitch on the front page to affect what you want to achieve? A wise marekting guru ;) once said, to sell something, put your customer in it.

"Welcome to our house" might be more effective as "Welcome to your new home" :D

So done!

My God $131,000.00 are houses that cheap there? I could probably get close to that for my ghetto dwelling here in Baltimore, MD. If I didn't have 5 more years to work I would be right up to move in.

Hah! We haven't been able to GIVE this place away.

The house is actually kind of ordinary looking outside. We needed potential buyers INSIDE and we weren't getting them with the pathetic exterior and 4 blurry interior photos my realtor had on the MLS.

The house is WAY over-improved- courtesy of my ex. In fact, this house, the debt he incurred as he constantly did and re-did sections of it, and his narcissistic drive to have the best of everything, no matter what, is one of the main reasons we divorced. I will miss my kitchen and the gas-fired stove, but there's no other part of this hellhole that I can't leave behind.

There's no way to recover the money he poured into this place. I don't have any delusions about that. But it is priced right now. The realtor was carried away with the level of improvements and originally had the house $19000 higher than we have our starting price at.

Becca.. when I wrote my response. .I was not criticizing.. I was only saying what I thought was input on what I saw from a buyers side.... sorry if i stepped on toes.. and I did remember that Wes was in process of doing the site.. as for some of my hints... maybe I misunderstood what you were saying here... oops.. thought you wished for our input... next time I keep mum..

"it all comes down to how much work is needed.. and .. how updated it all is" not ment to say that you needed updating.. but.. showing HOW much updating has been done... this is a PLUS...

As for the "johnny closet" never heard it before except from my brit SIL

Thanks for the color.. I do know about glazing.. actually have 1/2 my office glazed.. the other is done as sponging with a pearlecent glaze over a bamboo. I will try and look out for the color... thanks

will slip out quietly now...

You didn't offend me at all. I appreciated the input. Didn't you see the pic of the pull out tray in the kitchen? LOL

I'm kind of sick of hearing about the 'buyers market' is all. It's the current realtors excuse for not being able to get the job done.

Are you a neat freak :P

LOL! You should have seen me picking up junk and stashing it from room to room to take the pictures!

The presentation is great! And the house looks beautiful! Hooray for selling it yourself! I despise the fact real estate broker's commission is based on a percentage of the price. I think should be based on the number of hours they actually spend trying to sell your home.

Becca can't get on there for some reason but I have seen the pics you posted previously of your house and it is lovely and I can't understand why it is not sold, perhaps as someone said it is a buyers market where you are.

It's the same in the Uk at the moment and we have only just sold our house after 8 months, hold in there, it will happen I am sure.

Hi Rebecca,

You have a gorgeous house. (Can you re-locate it to NC lol)

Not sure whether this will help, but what about stating the location and what towns/cities it is near etc. We are currently looking for a place, but wanting to be reasonably near to amenities and work.

It might help if someone wants to move out of the big cities etc.

Superb job of highlighting the amenities. I agree, a link to mapquest, showing its location and its relation to local schools, shoipping malls etc might be a nice touch.

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

lovely home, rebecca! and excellent job, wes, in putting that site together! (don't you just love freewebs? it's so easy! we used freewebs to build our website, too!)

my only suggestion to you is this: be absolutely SURE that you publish the link with the "/" on the end of the address...the page will not load without that little slash!

or, alternately, is there a way to change that with freewebs?

good luck to you guys! it's going to be so fun setting up your new home...together!
