HealthDay – 1 hr 16 mins ago

SUNDAY, Sept. 4 (HealthDay News) -- When it comes to aggressive courtship strategies, sexist men and women seem to be perfect for each other, new research suggests.

U.S. researchers conducted two surveys: One included 363 college students at a large Midwestern university, and the other was a national Internet poll of 850 adults.

The male and female participants were asked about their sexist attitudes toward women and whether they were willing to engage in uncommitted or short-term sex. Men were also asked how often they used assertive strategies to initiate relationships and women were asked if, and to what degree, they found these types of advances desirable.

The researchers found that men who favored casual sex were more likely to use aggressive courtship strategies, while women who were also open to casual sex were more likely to respond to such approaches.

The surveys also revealed that men with negative, sexist attitudes toward women were more likely to use assertive strategies, and women with sexist attitudes toward other women were more likely to respond to these overtures.

The findings were published recently in the online edition of the journal Sex Roles.

"Our results suggest that assertive courtship strategies are a form of mutual identification of similarly sexist attitudes shared between courtship partners," Jeffrey Hall and Melanie Canterberry, of the University of Kansas, reported in a journal news release.

"Women who adopt sexist attitudes are more likely to prefer men who adopt similar attitudes. Not only do sexist men and women prefer partners who are like them, they prefer courtship strategies where men are the aggressors and women are the gatekeepers," the authors concluded.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

You know some of these head strong women posters on here would love nothing better than to slapped around a little and then tied to the bed by some egotistical chauvinistic guy.

I think the key here is in the original article where it says that men with sexist attitudes towards women and women with sexist attitudes towards women get along well. Basically, some women think that they are less and want to be treated as such. Some men think they are less and are willing to oblige. This doesn't mean, as the misleading title seems to imply, that women, who think they are better, and men, who think they are better, get along.

I agree.

My husband and I may be considered sexist...I don't know. But we both believe in gender roles, even though we believe in being equal, but different.

He very much feels like it's his place to be the breadwinner, and I feel it is my place to stay at home with our son. (Of course, I still have an outside job but it's mostly from inside the home.) And because I'm the one who's home most of the day, I don't feel it's his responsibility to clean the house. Yes, I'm generalizing...but some may feel these are sexist notions. Either way, it works for us, and we're happy.

My mother disliked women. She said she had worked in a weaving shed with 2,500 wonen, and as a result, she had concluded that she didn't like them

I dislike a significant percentage of women, but I dislike the same percentage of men too - so that isn't a sexist attitude

I can't understand people who 'like people' in an indiscriminate way because there are some appalling people out there - ####### Cheney, Charles Manson, Myra Hindley (dead), ossy (dead) - who can like them ?

I really dislike goatee beards, so that acts in favor of many women in the big cities at least, and against men

My wife says I am a mysoginist trapped in a heterosexual body - but it's not true when you take into account the number of men I dont like

AS far as receptability is concerned, I was 18 years single between marriages and I was out 5 nights a week and I know this subject. I approached all types of women in the same low key manner as that works with both aggressive and submissive women and doubles one's chances. I used the diagonal approach which I learned from native american indians. By gradually approaching in a diagonal direction, one can get pretty close without alarming the target.

Every man uses the 'stalking horse' tactic of chatting the ugly friend in order to disguise their approach.

It's fascinating and the best form of hunting as it doesn't require a license or getting mosquito bites.

I wouldn't waste half a lager on an aggressive woman now. I remember seeing a woman who I thought was Steve's sister. I went over and said 'Are you Steve's sister". She replied "What's in it for me if I am"

She was the top loony of all times and I cannot describe what happened as the story is wildly obscene. That's aggression so a medium submissive is always better than a top dom.

No more doms - ever

I once met a superb submissive and she loved being that. She lived up a mountain in Wales but was a credit card freek and hypershopperholic and my wallet told me to scoot. She was highly educated with a master's degree but just loved being submissive. Never had my hair combed for me before.

Unfortunately it's the case that most western women are now doms and whatever approach a man takes, he ends up being wrapped in the spider's web and his body used to feed the baby spiders before it falls dessicated to the forest floor.

I don't get the dom-submissive aspect. Why is it always one or the other? How about it being equal between both partners, and neither being overly dom or sub all the time. Sure, at times one will defer to the other, and vice versa, but overall? Not in my marriage.

Let's be honest. It's the gals who call most of the shots in the bedroom....or at least that's what Iv'e noticed. If a gal is submissive, it's because she wants to be....but that's a rarity these days.
