not sure if this is the right section of the forum to post this. i recently visited Atlanta and fell in love with it. i am married with children and plan to move to the states. i am a nurse with 10 years experience, i am currently looking into the process of registering as a nurse in the states. my wife and i are uk citizens and resident in uk, she grew up in new york and she has a green card which she has kept by returning every year. My question is

will she be able to add me and kids to her green card if she does not live and work in america.

can anyone advice on the best possible option

You can not maintain your permanent residency by visiting every year.

If you are really interested in looking at this, I see a Lawyer consultation in your future.

The process will not be a simple one based on what you've posted and are hoping.

A consultation with a qualified, experienced US based immigration attorney would be money well spent.

She cannot just add you to her greencard, she needs to petition you and the kids for a visa which will lead to a greencard once you use it to move. This process takes about three years (well, the process takes a few months but there is a waitinglist of 3 years for spouses and kids of greencard holders).

However- your wife is lucky that so far, she has kept her greencard. To keep it, normally she would need to spend more time inside the USA than outside (as the greencard more correctly refers to Legal Permanent Residence). Once she petitions for you, it will be discovered that she's just been visiting and her greencard may be revoked- hence the other replies recommending a lawyer, and I agree.

From the nursing side, you do have to take the NCLEX in order to be a US RN and you also have to make up coursework because most UK nurse training doesn't include the generalized courses that we have like OB, peds, psych, etc etc. Best to check out allnurses.com in the international forum.
