I just sent in the 3 checks for an AOS of a K1 Visa, and had the work visa check for $380 (form I-765) sent back. I have no clue why. The form states

"Recently you submitted an application for immigration benefits. That form was submitted with an extra remittance that is not required to process your application. Your check is being returned to you with this notice. Not additional action by you is required at this time.

Please be sure to complete the application fully, submit the appropriate fees, and include all supporting documentation."

Seems contradictory.

Under 'Notice Type', at the top , it says "Rejection Notice"

That sucks you should have only payed one check for 1070$ you should read the guides and instructions. You don't pay for the 765 nor the 131

there is no cost when filed concurrently with the i485. it is free. that's why they sent the payment back.

OP: Those notices they send back are form letters: they just choose from a list which stock paragraphs to include. Some of the paragraphs have typos, and some have obsolete terminology from years and years ago. I wouldn't worry about them too much. :)

You're quite fortunate. Because you sent separate checks, they are just keeping the one check for the right amount and returning the other. If you had just provided one check for the combined amount, they would have been forced to reject and return the entire packet to you.

As it is, you're fine. They've accepted you packet, and the one check which has the correct fee for the whole packet, and they're beginning to process your case. Sounds good.

DON'T PANIC

-Douglas Coupland
