The N-400 asks about club membership, associations etc. Do they REALLY mean all clubs/ associations? Or just political stuff?

For example I am a Sam's Club member (warehouse store), member of ICAN (International Ceasarian Awareness Network), a director for a cat rescue, default member of our subdivision's HOA (everyone owning a house here is) but we never met or got any notices from the HOA, volunteer for the church playschool and probably more I can't even remember...

PS: It feels odd asking the basic questions again, after so long "knowing" about visa processes!

Don't risk your sanity trying to read their minds in regard to what they mean. Answer the questions truthfully.

Yes, I included religious affiliations, AAA auto club membership, and Costco/Price Club as well.

At the interview the I.O. went over it quickly, asked "anything political?" an upon my answer put his red check mark on that part of the N-400 application form and moved on.

Better err on the safe side, me thinks.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

"Have you ever been a member of or associated with any organization, association, fund

foundation, party, club, society or similar group in the United States or in any other place?"

Feel Sam's Club or the AAA is going a bit to far, paying for a service. Its another redundant question in that what the USCIS really cares about are individually asked in that long list of questions. But should also ask about our political parties as well, since they are socialistic in nature, either for the super rich or the super poor.

One key word missing from that above statement is political that really opens the door for practically any charitable or religious organization. So technically, those would have to be listed.

But this is the consequence when a president appoints a foreign refugee that doesn't even have a slim mastery of the English language and not even a legal background that heads the USCIS. Only because he helped that president get elected. New administration never corrected this flaw and can't even appoint a permanent director. Only had acting directors since then.

if this isn't bad enough, having an appointment coordinator or an IO that can barely speak English. These should be assigned a certified interpreter, so you know what in the hell they are talking about.

They are doing a background check and that includes known affiliations. I wouldn't include discount memberships and savings cards, or home owners associations.
