My wife is going to change her surname to mine and we are also going to renew her green card (AOS) soon. My question is do we have to pay extra to change the name on her green card if we do it at the same time as the AOS? Is there a charge to change the name if we do it before the AOS? Any help with this is appreciated.

You do not renew a 2 year green card.

You have to file to remove conditions. Its a whole different process. http://www.visajourney.com/content/751guide

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Yes I understand that it is not a renewal but the question remains can we change the name on the green card during this process without acruing additional fees?

When she applies to remove conditions (ROC) it is possible to change the name to MARRIED surname only. She cannot change her first name. marriage certificate is proof of name change eligibility.

**Edit - you should learn the terms. You should NOT AOS to "renew" her GC. She is removing the conditions. It is a different process and has a different timeline and deadline to apply. Failure to submit the correct forms on time will result in termination of her LPR status and eventual deportation.

Thank you for the reply and the info. I am aware of the proper form needed to remove the conditions of my wifes visa. Thanks again.
