You are required to file taxes as a permanent resident regardless of having income or no income. I have been filing taxes the last 2 years of living in the USA with no job no income.

some may sy otherwise but if u had no income then you are not required to file. my parents entered the USA as LPRs on dec. 19, 2010 and were not required to file... but for I864 purposes the form would be completed with an explanation as to why no return was filed.

A person with zero income is not required to file a tax return.

Then how do you answer the question HAVE YOU EVER FAILED TO FILE TAX RETURNS on the citizenship forms? If you have failed to file, it will cause problems.

yes it would be yes... with proper documentation supporting the failure.. which is no income. No you can answer No. because you were not required to file thus did not fail to file. .. just the way I see it Inky could be wrong but likely not.

What about moral character? " just because you don't need to from no income " so you just don't do it? Not to mention I keep seeing/reading articles posted about having to file taxes even USCs when they have no income because the IRS will catch up to you and make you back file etc.

My packet I got from USCIS had an updated file to the link I posted and said that to keep your PR status and etc you must file taxes.

thanks a lot friends....

Somewhere I read that you must need tax return for last 5 years when u file for your naturalization /Citizenship. For the safe side I would do tax return with zero income. Atleast I have records @ federal income fund.

True when the person has income they are required to report/file it.. There are many sponsors on here with $0.00 income who get their families here and who are required to send a letter. You're a brilliant person.. i know you know this you prob just forgot.
