I think they are mandatory to prove you are following the rules, filing taxes etc. Why should they remove conditions for a non taxpayer.

Joint taxes are a HUGE piece of evidence of co-mingling your lives.

I understand and I have been doing ours in preparation for the removal. I was just wondering if you will automatically be given RFE if you don't submit them. Are they a deal breaker for removal if they are not submitted?

I think filing Tax returns is a must. Regardless of filing jointly or seperately. Thats another debate. Its an important piece of evidence for your case. Expecially, for Naturalization you must show past three years of tax filing.

Joint state and fed tax returns/transcrips are listed in the instructions.
