Seriously dude, COMPROMISE. COMPROMISE. She is coming to America. A land of milk and honey to her.....she is going to be so happy so is going to try and please you. Just learn to compromise. I would worry more about the interview in 2 weeks. then her being here. Focus on today, you are borrowing tomorrow's troubles ahead of time.

If anything, start eating more rice, and more shrimp. shrimp fried rice maybe?? Maybe eat more at Red Lobster.

Even for an american I have pretty terrible diet. As often as not breakfast is chocolate and a diet soda or Ice cream. Mcdonalds is my favorite restaurant. for whatever reason I'm still relatively thin.

I thought I was immune to the bad effects but a couple years ago my cholesterol was up. Doc said exercise more and watch your diet.

I went through a short phase of eating oatmeal for breakfast and paying attention to what I ate but that phase is pretty much behind me.

Judy's diet is fish and rice and water with some occaisional fruits and vegetables.

She will be here in a couple of months assuming all goes well. She seems to be pretty comfortable with the man (Me) being in charge.

I assume if I was a smoker most people would be comfortable with me telling her she is not allowed to smoke. I also know that the best thing for both of us would be

to add some more fruits and vegetables to her diet and then I adopt that. I know thats not going to happen.

Other than fish sticks and tuna fish, fish tastes like fish, yuck!!

If I don't decide ahead of time to not allow it , she will probably adopt my habbits in no time. separate diets is like a negative 10 in the romance department but

If I try to modify my diet that will probably turn out to be a short phase like the last time. It crossed my mind that we could eat the same thing at the evening meal but have separate

food for breakfast and lunch.

If u love her do what makes her happy. Me and hubby is married for 4.5 years now and i still cook and eat whatver i wanna eat anytime i want to.

I eat rice still everyday more so when my 2 kids got here.

Hubby cooks and eats what he wants and we all eat too if we like the food. He eats the filipino food that i cook too if he likes it.But i know he doesnt want fish. I still do cook fish ,crabs and other sea foods whch he do n't like but he lets us eat so no problem with that.

This is almost as lame as Steven's thread. I want to know who are the three people that actually liked Steven's first post.

Dan, Dan, Dan....find the nearest Asian store before she arrives, and plan on visiting that within days of her arrival. Buy a rice cooker and a deep fryer. Get hair traps for all the drains, and buy an electric blanket before the chill of fall.

In the meantime, consult a contractor about building a "Dirty Kitchen".

This is actually my second go round. I've got 15 years experience. It never even crossed my mind to control the diet of my first wife, except of course the stinky fish which I never banned but I bitched about it enough that I think she just stopped cooking it. I've got the rice cooker (had to replace it after the ex used it as a deadly weapon) but don't worry I got a smaller one this time.

Sent a rice cooker to Judy and a month later asked her how it worked, she said she hadn't used it yet :)

My impression is she has been too poor to experiment with cooking. She didnt have a clue what to do with meat when I was there. and didnt know what teriyaki sauce was. So I will have to teach her

how to cook stuff.

For "Golden Gate" I think it was the whisky that did in Jack Kerouac :o

for everybody, whatever you do , don't hold down the control key and then click on the multiquote button

My wife will be allowed to do anything she pleases. smoke, drink, eat, get tattoos, just keep an open mind..

3somes?!?

What's wrong with McDonald's?

As a favorite!!!

Jack Kerouac ate apple pie with ice cream every day for meals, and he died too young!!!

Jack's problem is what he washed it down with... :o

Watch the movie "Super-size Me."

That was Dan in the movie...and his real name is Morgan Spurlock! :jest:

I'll just eat whatever she puts in front of me. I'm expecting that to make me healthier very quickly.

Watch the salt and the MSG. ;)

Get hair traps for all the drains,

and buy an electric blanket before the chill of fall.

In the meantime, consult a contractor about building a "Dirty Kitchen".

Bill...The first two are off-topic...but great advice just the same!

However, you should let them find out on their own why they need a dirty kitchen. :jest:

Focus on today, you are borrowing tomorrow's troubles ahead of time.

Words of wisdon...never plan ahead!!!:rolleyes:

It's a free country. She can eat whatever she wants.

Unless she wants to throw a physicist steak on the bbq. :jest:

Bump.....

Let's see if they are brave enough to admit it. :)

and...why didn't any1 go after LI's jealousy issues b4 charles locked the thread? (I would've but I was away from the computer for a bit and returned to find Charles had locked it.)

:ot2:

Let her eat whatever she wants. Happy wife = happy life. She will (sometimes) feel happy when eating foods from "home". She's happy means you're happy.

My wife didn't do any cooking, and her parents owned a small restaurant. I am still teaching her basic cooking techniques, but she must have paid attention to some things her parents did. She is becoming quite the Pinay cook. I don't eat most of the stuff she cooks (I eat low carb), so what she cooks, she cooks for herself and her friends. Her coworkers love what she shares with them. What we bring to potlucks, she cooks herself and we get raves. I have modified a few Filipino recipes for myself, and she likes those better than the authentic version. She is getting more creative with spices, most of which are new to her.

#1 How do we establish that 3 people like a particular thread, other than what they post which would identify them?

#2 I can't speak from experience on this, but I heard the eyes are the best part, so if you are being adventurous you could eat the eyes first

and then it won't be looking at you anymore

#3 by the way, I'm a pretty fair cook myself. Just yesterday I came up with an improvement on that old Filipino staple "cut up hotdogs with rice"

Traditionally I just put teriyaki sauce on my rice, but when I was pulling the hotdogs out of the refrigerator my eyes fell upon the sour cream.

It was as if I could hear a voice from above, "Put the sour cream on the rice, Put the sour cream on the rice" I followed the directions exactly.

Three big spoonfuls of sourcream on top of the hotdogs and rice, then I topped it off with the teriyaki sauce. It took that classic dish to a whole

new culinary level.

bill already got #1

#2: ain't happnen. knock yourself out if you wanna try it. i just can't do it.

#3: i haven't tried that one. i'm not much of a fan of filipino spaghetti either...too sweet for me & i don't understand the hotdogs mixed in.???

teriyaki sauce on rice is pretty good...next time you're @ an asian market get some 'sweet chili sauce' any brand. the first time i ate it was dipping lumpia in it...now i just pour it ontop of a big bowl of jasmine rice... :)

M She is getting more creative with spices, most of which are new to her.

Yes, I found the spices a big problem as well. My solution, I sent as many spices as I could over to her family in a BIG carton. A lot of common spices you could imagine, and some marinades as well. the only thing I did not send was saffron. (I love the stuff, but if you don't know how to use the other spices, you ain't ready for saffron.)

List of spices(from what I can remember): Anise, allspice, sweet basil, bay leaves, caraway, cardamom, celery seed, cloves, cinnamon, chili pepper, coriander, chives, celery seed, cilantro, dillseed, fennel ,fenugreek, ginger, marjoram, mustard, nutmeg, oregano, parsley, paprika, rosemary, sage, tarragon, thyme, chili powder, apple pie spice

I also sent over some instant mashed potatoes, red beans and rice, and saffron rice packet. Things they could cook on a stove or in a pot. I also sent them a set of stainless steel pots and pans. Once Gretchen gets here, I am going to send them another set. they also have two complete sets of "butcher block" knives. (steak knives, shears, and typical kitchen knives.) I also sent some kitchen utensils, and some nut/seafood crackers. I also sent a slicer. Also sent them measuring cups, measuring spoons, fruit baller, and a few other odds and ends.

My next trip I am taking a pestle and mortar and some other items. A flat skillet and such. All I can say is I am not changing how they cook or make food, but giving them to ability to improve what they cook.

My wife is an excellent cook. Asawa ko always tries new recipes and it's a bullseye every time. Given the choice between my wife's cooking and my mom's...:secret: (mom is a pretty good cook but...) I'm going with asawa ko's... without hesitation. Hands down, my wife's cooking is far superior to my mother's.

Now, I wonder how my mother would feel if my wife decided to help her "improve" her cooking. I wonder if my mom would maybe take offense. Maybe feel diminished, insulted or at least ....embarrassed.

One thing I have observed about Filipino's....(at least the Filipino's I have been exposed to)...they are a humble people...they will smile and be gracious...even when their guest (accidentally) offends them.
