Filling out I-864 Item 23 Current Individual Income

I thought I know how to fill out the I-864. But there are a few items that are ambiguous to me.

For I-864 item 23 says "current individual income". What precisely is the definition of that?

Is it the pre-tax amount or after tax amount? Is it adjusted or non-adjusted gross income?

Does it mean the number as shown on the W-2 you receive at the end of year? But then you only have last year's whole year figure, not this year's. In any case it can only be estimated for the current year.

Do I need to subtract amounts such as alimony or child support, or things like that nature. Or do I simply put in whatever my pre-tax and pre-deduction amount is?

My employer provides me with an employment verification letter with my annualized income calculated, with nothing deducted. Should I just use that number as it is. Or is it best to try to estimate my adjusted gross income from it?

If the employer provided letter is from 2011, use the annualized income calculated from it. Also attach copy of that letter. Current income is not 2010 income.

12/28/11 - Received SSN (applied on 12/20/11, as we didn't get based on DS-230 options)
11/28/11 - Received Green Card (Expires on 10/30/13) - Welcome Letter on 11/17/11
10/30/11 - POE - Houston, TX

Chennai Consulate (40 days)
10/28/11 - Received Visa papers and Passport at VFS
10/25/11 - Interview Cleared Successfully (Spouse was not allowed in)

NVC: (90 days from NOA2 to Consulate)
08/31/11 - Case Completed (Interview 10/25/11) - Received at Chennai on 09/19/11
07/22/11 - NVC Case Number

USCIS: (92 days)

6/21/11 - NOA2 (NOA1 on 3/25/11) - took a month to get to NVC
3/21/11 - I-130 sent to USCIS Lockbox, Chicago.

As NavyK stated. Support the income claim with the employer letter and recent paystubs.

I also have a same problem, I thought i would put down same as last year income but until I read this topic.

So i have to put my current individual income as right now, right? but then I wont have enough income to sponsor my wife because is have to be over $20K. I'm so confused

Fill in the annual income number stated on your w2 which is after tax. W2 is your evidence.
