The consular officer notifies the foreign fiancé(e) of a scheduled interview once the initial process of checking the submitted documents is complete. The alien fiancé(e) is issued a visa and allowed to enter the US. This visa is valid for 90 days within which the couple needs to get married. Subsequent to that, the alien spouse needs to apply for an adjustment of status to conditional permanent residence status with the USCIS. A joint petition to remove the conditions on the residence must be filed after two years of marriage.

Good luck guys..

I don't know how it works at other Embassies but, at the U.S. Embassy Manila, the consular officers don't notify anyone about their interview. Instead, the petitioner or the beneficiary schedule the beneficiary's interview either online or by phone through the call center.

Also, the K-1 visa allows the beneficiary to enter the U.S. within six months. After the beneficiary enters the U.S., the K-1 is no longer valid. The beneficiary is issued an I-94 at their POE. The I-94 is valid for 90 days.

You have already completed the difficult part of the process...the medical. The interview is just easy...five minutes or less.

Don't forget to complete your CFO seminar!

Best wishes... :)

The only tip I can offer is to BE HONEST. Don't lie/omit information based on what you think the CO wants to hear. Just be honest and tell the truth and try to stay calm (easier said than done, I know).

Experiences and observations vary person to person, but the process in Manila through my eyes was straightforward.

Like any important meeting, put yourself together. Dress appropriately -- i.e., as if the outcome matters to you --, put all of your documents in a sorted folder where you can grab them quickly without searching, make sure your Affidavit of Support and evidence is all there, get a good night of sleep and a meal, and roll in there to knock it out.

The problems I saw while sitting there for the day were largely ones that could have been avoided: dressed in ratty t-shirts and flip-flips, unorganized documents forcing people to dig and look unprepared (and occasionally not finding them at all), and somehow either not having the I-134 or the right supporting evidence for it.

Basically, a lack of preparation and knowledge. And plenty of tears and confusion to show for it.

I've posted this before, but there was one girl who spent hours telling everyone how her USC fiancé was a "millionaire" in the States, and then came out balling when the CO told her they were in AP due to the USC barely making over $10K a year. That sort of thing.

Otherwise, short of glaring issues I don't think it is a difficult embassy in any way. We were in and out within minutes -- so fast we were in disbelief.

Good luck. Glad things finally came around for you!

Our interview is Aug 1st in Manila. We will be together for the interview so I am assuming it will be a breeze. Like everyone says, relax and have your documents in order.

  • Be nice to the embassy staff.
  • Wear appropriate clothes. (Lol there was a USC who accompanied his fiance who wore a "Barong", we thought it looked funny but sweet. There was also a whole family who wore Barongs.)
  • Have your documents ready! A saw a guy (a fiance) who didn't have his DS forms and even made the Embassy staff look for it in his folders.)
  • Don't be bugged by the vendors outside the embassy.
  • If you can, bring an umbrella with you because it's been raining in Manila and you don't wanna get wet while waiting outside the building. (I'm not sure if umbrellas are allowed inside so have someone wait for you outside)
  • Don't bring any electronics(laptop, usb, cellphones), food and liquids. (Again have someone wait for you so you can leave your items to him/her. It's quite expensive to leave them to the vendors. They charge 150p)
  • Bring a coat or jacket if you have low cold tolerance coz it gets cold inside the embassy.
  • Memorize the dates. (Most frequent asked questions are When did you meet?, When was the first/last time you saw each other?, For how long have you been together?)

Thats all I could think off. Relax! The interview is very easy. I also told my fiance "Wow I just had my first American experience". Because they are very organized and professional unlike majority of the government establishments here in the PI where people are power tripping. :)

My interview was on 28th of july but it went well, i left at the hotel at 3:30 am, had my umbrella with me...i didn't bring to be my companion. No electronics,no foods but had a candy( don't bring many candies, the security guards wont allow you to bring all of them inside the embassy) they took some of my candies..huhuhuhu!!lolz! But the umbrella is okay inside the embassy (but of course take off your umbrella once you are about to entered at the embassy lol). Once you have your required documents are completed, you will be fine. Don't get any nervous, just relax!...the questioning are easy!...all you have to do is "BE PREPARED"!.

GOODLUCK!

PS.

Wear a jacket,it's cold inside the embassy..:)

and wear a formal attire!
