Oh no! After reading here about why someone else got an RFE, I went back and checked my copy of our I-129F form and realized I made the same exact mistake. We just received our NOA1. Any way to rectify this before we get an RFE somewhere down the road? Thanks!!

I am going to call the National Customor Service Center with my receipt number but wondered if anyone here has gone through the same thing - from my board searches there appears to be some inconsistency in the way things like this are handled.

I think it's best to just wait to receive RFE. Have the correct reply ready for when/if you do receive RFE so you can send it off right away. If you send it now, they might not match it to your original submition.

Hey smashrun, I was in the same boat looking for a way to correct the issue before getting an RFE. I called USCIS and asked if there was anything I could do but I was instructed to wait for the RFE. I am currently putting together what is asked of me to complete my I-129F correctly.

You are right there are different ways to deal with this but the least risky will be to wait for the RFE. That's just my opinion. Good luck.

Not really. You could send off a correction and the chances of it making any difference are basically -0-, but if it only costs a postage stamp, why not?

Keep a copy to respond to the RFE.

Thanks so much for your replies...I appreciate it! I think I will still call just to see what they say. So frustrating that a very simple oversight that could be easily rectified (leaving a YES/NO option blank) could result in a delay. Oh well :(

Not properly completing the forms will result in delays.

I suggest before anyone send anything in this process, to put it aside when you think it is ready, wait a day or two and check it again. NOTHING should be left blank. If it is not applicable, then answer NA. If there is none then answer NONE. This way nothing is left blank and you do not say "Oh I forgot to check that box"

Yes, I realize that now. I work with legal forms/documents for a living so I am quite aware of what not properly filling out forms can cause. However, if clients notify us in a timely manner we handle it and processing goes on without a hitch. Too much to expect from the goverment I guess! Oh well, lesson learned. I will go over any future forms we submit with a magnifying glass. haha!!

In many cases the correction can be submitted over the phone. We noticed an error in the SSN on the I-129f (it was correct on the 325A) so we called the 800 number and eventually spoke to a customer support agent. They looked up the case using the receipt number and found the incorrect SSN in their case database. The agent submitted a computerized correction notice to the service center handling the case. It was all very easy and fast. They also said that current processing time was 5 months from date of submission of the original petition.

Good luck!

That's a bit easier to fix. The SSN gets put into the system along with the receipt for the case, and by calling in they can easily access that and change it to the correct SSN.

On the other hand, the OP forgot to check a yes/no box. This is NOT easily done. They cannot easily find the petition (at the correct service center) amongst the pile of petitions sitting in a box, which is sitting next to more boxes of more petitions. Open the box. Mark in the missing info...etc. This is why they would tell the OP to wait for the RFE. Imagine how much longer it would take them to fix petitions if everyone who forgot to check a box or date a signature or spelt something wrong, called in and asked them to physically change the info for them.

...

OP...it'll be an easy RFE to fix when you get it. And it'll only delay you a few weeks. Not so bad in the bigger scheme of things. And definitely lesson learned...as this will be the first of dozens of forms we'll all be filling out throughout the immigration process. lol Good luck on your case! :)
