Once I was told to go back to my home country, but I don't think they realized I was born and raised in the USA, and when I told them, they told me to go to my husbands country then because I didn't believe in their views of religion and the country!

Crazy Americans! I am one too, but I would never tell someone to go back to their country. My husband, however, likes to joke around with the guys at his work and tells them to Learn English or go back to Mexico, but he speaks Spanish and we have them over for dinner sometimes. SOrry got off track!

Anyway, I hate that people are so rude to foreigners for having a different view point, yet they are ok with the nationals having a different view? It just doesn't make sense. I hope other people treat you better and you love living here in America!

CanadaGirl,

I had the same initial thought that Clownies did, posted on page 2 I think - the majority of Americans don't go back many generations to their immigrant forebears. How quickly we forget.

Anyway, let's hope that this person will drop the issue and not mention it again. But in the event that they do continue to suggest that you don't belong and should 'go home to your own country', you might want to consider bringing it to the attention of you supervisor or HR representative, whichever you feel more comfortable with. The laws against harassment in the workplace are not limited to sexual harassment, they include ancestry and national origin.

Hello,

I am Canadian and I have been living in the states for 7 months now. So far everything is going great. I got my work permit, a job, credit, just bought a condo, etc. This past week I was on a natural high from having my life finally fit into place.

Well....today I was going to a meeting with a co worker and she was asking alot about Canada and immigration. She was asking about Canadian's views on America and the war and 9/11. I answered with my honest opinions which is everyone I know in Canada doesn't support the war but that is just my friends and family, I can't speak for 30 million people. I also told her I don't agree with the war and I am not a big supporter of Bush.

So she started saying I should go back to my home country and I'm not welcome here. America doesn't need immigrants like me...if I don't support America then I should leave, etc, etc.

I was really shocked by this and simply said "you asked for my opinion and I didn't mean to offend you but I have the right to my opinion and I am Canadian and grew up in a peace keeping frame of mind"

She just simply said "you don't belong here"

I am really upset about this and have felt sick all day long. I really do love living here and yes, I may not support the war but neither does 50% of america. I view myself as a Canadian living in Florida and that's it. I like living here but I do have my own opinions that I grew up with and I don't see that changing.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had an experience like this and maybe a little advice. I really didn't want to offend her but she was asking for my opinions.

Just feeling rejected at the moment and not sure how to take all of this.

Whatever you do, don't ever let someone silence your opinion...that's not what this country is about and if she doesn't understand that, perhaps she should live somewhere else more authoritarian.

Neo-conservative chopf##ks!

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black..:crying::lol:

You seriously crack me up..

And when you bashed Clinton while he was President, did that make you anti-American??? Give me a friggen break! What hypocracy! Oye!

too funny. I bet you republicans may have bashed clinton but they never would have tried to ###### the country over just to get him out of office. This is the difference between neo democrats and 'neo' republicans. Most democrats look after their own ### and don't give a ###### about America. Well apart from the right of being able to say and do as they please.

:yes::thumbs:

To the OP:

If she does it again, report it to the boss. You have the right to be in a work environment free of harrassment and intimidation.

And, incanada does NOT represent the majority of Canadians, who believe in LIBERTY (which, by definition, is what liberals strive for), even though the govt is conservative and licks Bush's #######.

incanada is the USC. So probably not representing Canada at all. ;)

I thought she lived in Canada though, for a while. well suddenly it all makes sense

Yup, and was pretty vocal here about how much she disliked it. Prompting the move back to Utah I think it is.

(Well vocal in text. )

And in a disgusting twist of fate, I miss Canada now. Figures!
